Hi Everyone!
I have noticed that when I buy a solid that is empty I always end up a little disappointed? I prefer them to be fairly full, but I am happy with even just a smidgen of remains to give a nice whiff than I am when they are totally empty. I find myself wanting to replace my empties with ones that I find that still have perfume. Lately I have been passing up the empty ones holding out for a little smell! I purchased a red balloon empty and was excited to finally have it, but still had that sad little feeling over it being empty. I still am very thankful to have it but feel it is missing it's zing. Are most collectors happy with just the empty container?
Donna
I only feel good about empty ones if they are old and hard to come by.
Such as my Pig standing on four legs. It is empty, but I think it is harder to find than the sitting pig.
I would rather have them full, mint in box!
But that is not always possible.I like the MIB solids the best. Sometimes price and rarity prevents me from buying boxed solids.
Also, I settled on non-MIB solids because of very low prices. I bought the pink butterfly with perfume — no box for $90 something. I have trouble getting the fruit solids, so I bought the pineapple with half used perfume — no box.
I always plan to replace the non-MIB solids with MIB (if I can afford to). Then, I resell the non-MIB to break even. I did this with the peach among a few others.
Its harder for me to get MIB solids from other companies. Not too many people list the good ones. Finally, I won something I've been waiting for. <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ /> I'll list the non-boxed duplicate later.
Hello Greyhound, I do exactly the same. If I have an opportunity to replace the unboxed for an MIB, I then sell the first one. Am always really happy to have the unboxed but the icing on the cake is to finally have the boxed item.

I buy the empty ones ( if cheap enough) just to have in a display and keep my MIB ones put away .
Not sure what I am keeping them put away for but you never know. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
You are right about the MIB being special. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
I ONLY HAVE A VERY SMALL COLLECTION <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> AND ALL EXCEPT ONE ARE MIB
WOULD I BUY ONE THAT HAD NO PERFUME……. NO, I WOULD HOPE TO FIND A PERFECT ONE, EVER THE OPTIMIST <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> THATS ME.
REGARDS……MARGARET….
I display my solids on a mirrored tray and look and admire them almost everyday
…am I crazy <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//unsure.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’unsure.gif’ /> I have noticed on E-bay some solids without boxes could be up to $125.00 less than with a box (for example the “Jack in the Box”)…Are the boxes worth that much????? <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//unsure.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’unsure.gif’ /> …When I purchased the carousel, my box was damaged…… (does that really matter??) <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ /> I really don't plan on selling any, so I feel as I can enjoy them now…who knows what my children will do with them…they will probably end up in a garage sale!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> caroleI like having the boxes with them but if they are empty its OK with me if it is something I really want.. I am very allergic to the smell of many fragrances and when they are full the display really has a stong smell when I open it. Most of the Perfume bottles in my collection are either empty or sealed, never opened. Good thing Factice are not really filled with perfume. How I ever started being a Perfume bottle and solid collector I'll never know, LOL. Lainey <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
Re the boxes and their relevance, Carole, I have here at home an item which was given to us at the time of the Wedding between Prince Charles and Diana. It is a large china/porcelaine bell with their picture on the front and contains alcohol. I chucked the box as it was taking up room not realising that the box added value ( this was before I became a collector of solid perfumes). I disocvered that this Bell with the box sells for over Sterling £700. Without the box?????? Less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />
I think that might answer the question of the value of boxes! <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> Not that it would add that much to one of the solids……..but who knows!!!
Shame shame, Jacky. You're not suppose to throw away any boxes ever. I keep boxes for almost everything “collectable” just in case…as well as boxes for other stuff I should throw away. You should see how many shipping boxes I have. Scary. That's why I have too much clutter. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
For me, I want the solids itself. If I can get it MIB fantastic but if I see an empty compact and I want the soild it's mine!
I do however trade out my solids for better ones that come along. I, like Carole look at my solids everyday so they are all out and about. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
Hi all,
If I could add my 2 cents to this subject. If you want solid perfume in your empty collectibles, couldn't you buy the solid perfume in the sticks, melt the perfume in a small dish in the microwave, and pour it in.??? I don't know if the YouthDew is available, but know 'Beautiful” and some others are. Just a thought.
LorraineI guess the thought is that if one is paying a lot for these items, then it's best to get them MIB with perfume. Like the opener of this topic, I too feel disappointed when I receive a solid that's unfilled or not in its box. I have mine displayed too, but I keep the boxes (I found a good place for them – behind the books on my bookshelf). <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
A bargain ain't a bargain unless you get what you're really looking for at a good price!

<!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ /> I think some dishonest sellers have already thought of this . . . . it was a contentious subject a little while ago, if I remember correctly. They refilled their empties and sold them as MIB filled with perfume.
No crime in doing it yourself though if you're not going to resell. But then, is there value in this? <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />
