No, and there also seems to be more and more different sellers coming up and less of the 'old' but trusted ones!!

Actually, I was emailing 'a person' I bought off about a year or so ago, and I asked that 'person' where they got so many empty solids from – it was a warehouse in NY, of course . . . . recently I asked 'the person' why they hadn't been listing any more 'goodies' these days and 'the person' told me that they were harder to get nowadays because so many people had cottoned on to it . . . . .

However, I am thinking that there are more 'employees' cottoning on to it, or that perhaps we are buying 'stolen goods' if they are filled with perfume .. . . .

    What do others think of this notion? <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

    Sandra,

I agree with what you are saying. I feel the sales have slowed a bit but have by no means stopped.

If the warehouse sales stopped selling solid and powder compacts than where would they go?

    Dumpster diving, perhaps?

    Or, five finger discount.

I work for estee lauder on long island i also work the warehouse sale and they have stopped selling the empty compacts due to too many showing up on ebay. this sucks for me because i used to get the empty compacts for $10 dollars or less. i figure they are going to have to start selling them again because so many come back and they have to do something with them. I also get $400 a year to spend in the company store which has full solid perfume compacts with the box and sometimes the white outer box too. Just this year i bought the trampeze circus tent with both boxes for $216 and about 2-3 years ago i could've bought the carousel for $120 i could just kick myself for not buying it.

Thanks for your honesty. This sure as hell confirms what some of the members thought. I'm sure you think it sucks, but consider how we all felt paying paying full retail price for them and then having them show up all over the place in abundance for a couple of bucks!!

However, I'm glad for you that you had a good time of it all!!

If there are so many left over, maybe EL will shorten the production run now. The reason there are so many coming back is because they are able to be obtained elsewhere for MUCH cheaper, so thanks for the insight and we now know that EL MUST now reconsider what is happening with the solid perfume market.

We certainly aren't going to continue buying retail if they release them that cheap to you guys!

While I have to say it looked as if the sales slowed down for a while but now eBay is still flooded with empty compacts without boxes. It is obvious they are coming from the warehouse sales because just take a look at what else the sellers are selling, it is all EL company product.

I think the latest solid sold at the warehouse sale was “butterfly” necklace from 1999 as there are three for sale now two of them being sold in the US and the third from the UK, all compacts are being offered without perfume, box or pouch and the numbers on the solids are as follows:

    822/1000
    878/1000
    892/1000

Having no real knowledge of these warehouse sales myself, I am confused how solids from five year ago (1999 butterfly) are just being sold at the warehouse sales now. Does EL really have a stockpile of these solids just lying around?

Shorts3564, thanks for the input – could I ask the purpose of the purchases for you – was it to resell them or for your own collection? Based on what you saw at these sales, what were most people doing – buying to keep or to resell?

I think what we can do here as a group is try to grasp that the highest figure we should pay is about HALF of the retail, so that when we see things on Ebay (unless RARE), we shouldn't bid too high for the goods.

This is because we know that they are going to show up on Ebay in their masses and there will be more than enough to go around and then some more.

In that way, no-one should pay too much too soon. All we have to do is be patient!! We MUST set limits of what we are going to pay for them and forget about the retail and how much we are 'saving'.

Most of these guys are getting them for $10 or less, and that's straight from the horses mouth (so to speak) – I realise that they may be just the empty ones, but many are still turning up with perfume etc.

Like 'shorts' said, there are heaps of them just waiting to be released to the staff.

    Let's wait, but we all have to do it together PATIENTLY!!! <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

I agree with what you are saying Sandra. I have seen some crazy prices for empty solids and while there is nothing wrong with buying them I think we (the collectors) shouldn't be making anyone rich over a $10 solid. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

Lori B I collect them for myself but from seeing other people at the sales i think they are buying to resell some look for just certain compacts usually empty solids or rhine stone compacts they usually buy 6 which is the limit per person. There are also people that just think there cute and buy them and others that buy them for pill boxes
