Yea, what is flash fill? Can you help a novice at photography? I honestly do not know what I am doing aside from pointing and shooting.
I too am having problems photographing my vitrine although I have not tried covering the flash with kleenex yet (neat suggestion!). I only have a digital camera with a zoom (Pentax Optio S) and the flash on it is very bright.
I’m going to give it another try this week using kleenex and see what happens.
