Sorry everyone, it wasn't an April Fool, <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ /> they are real and if you follow the link you'll see them

    http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/forums/b…-bird-call.html

We are very lucky here, there are a few pairs who are obviously resident in the summer and they are so beautiful you just have to stop and watch when they arrive in the garden. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

    Still wish I knew what the “pleased to meet you” bird was though – and wished he slept a little later!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

Hello everyone again from rural FRANCE.

Sorry I have been out of touch, but with nursing Paul back to health after he broke BOTH his heels and building two houses – I'm sort of tired. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

Anyway Paul is walking a lot steadier now and will have another operation to remove all his screws and plates this summer.

I'm afraid my garden got very little attention last year and will be a big struggle. This spring I had about a dozen crocus only – the wild boar ate the rest last year. And of course we have lots of deer in the garden too – I love them and they are not as destructive as the Boar!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

    Margaret – this is a no go area for you – we have Frogs everywhere <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> – and the noise phew!!!!!!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ />

The “pleased to meet you” bird is back from Africa (I don't know what it is but it's mating call is a short whistle and then it says “pleased to meet you”). Unfortuneatly at 5am it gets into your head and you could murder it. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

We are awaiting the HooPoo which is very beautiful – looks like a cross between a Zebra and a Punk!!!

Our two cats have taken all this in their stride – the wildest animals we had in the UK were the neighbours HORRIBLE children!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ /> <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ />

And as for summer in the UK – why do you think we moved to France!!!!!!

Hi Jill, welcome to the family.

I am not a “serious” collector like lots of the members here, I started just buying pieces that meant something special to me eg. the Roulette Wheel from Las Vegas, The Piano because ONE DAY I will start playing again !!!!

The book about the EL products is generally available on Ebay – I had mine given at the EL shop in Vegas. However be careful – if you get the book and see all the gorgeous perfumes and compacts your bank balance could take a serious battering!!!

All I can say is just enjoy whatever you buy, and if you get them from the retail outlets, Ebay or flea markets it really doesn't matter.

    Bienvenue from rural France

Well how can anyone not be overwhelmed by a sight like that – once in a lifetime experience and lucky Sandra to have seen it in person. I for one am GREEN with envy!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ />

Now as you all know I am one of the LUCKIEST people around, so sorry to bring you down to earth but this was my experience of the QE2.

My ex had a terrible fear of flying, so holidays for us were Europe – he would set off two or three days before me on the bus or train and of course I'd hop a plane for a couple of hours and would be halfway through my bottle of wine as he arrived. <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ />

Then the subject ot the USA came up.

Well the only option was to take the QE2 across the atlantic, have ten days in the US while the ship was cruising the Caribbean, and then sail back on her. A Holiday of a lifetime – oh yes, but as we weren't married at the time I had to pay my own way!!! <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

It was October 1987, I lived in London at the time and we were booked to take the boat train to Southampton – nice and easy.

However the night before was the famous once in a zillion year HURRICANE in the south of England which was not the best of starts!!! <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

The following morning there was no electricity and my little portable radio was blasting out tales of woe and disaster. Should I have taken this as an omen – YES <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

We managed to get through to Cunard who told us that there were no trains running, but to get to Victoria Station on time as they were getting a fleet of coaches arranged.

The drive to Southampton was unreal, we had never seen anything like it before with whole swathes of countryside dessimated by the storm.

When we finally arrived at the port we were beaten to the quay by four fire trucks blasting their horns and firemen running on board – another omen perhaps <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> mmmmm

Well whatever the crisis was it got straightened out and by now I was too tired and stressed to worry – we sailed on schedule.

    Oh a life on the ocean waves!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

I made it to breakfast, even ordered the food – and was a little surprised how quiet it was – all of a sudden I started feeling a little queasy.

I grabbed the sole waiter around and he told me to get to the doctors clinic as they had an injection for sea-sickness. His directions weren't neccessary – all I had to do was follow the line (very long line) of others – passengers and crew alike!

When it was my turn I bent down as asked and paid my ten dollars “that should last you five days” he said with a smile – and the crossing takes five days.

Who in their right mind gets on a ship to cross the Atlantic in the wake of a Hurricane – just lucky ol me!!!!

    Well Woody, for some weeks you have been looking for the snow <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> – now you have some you're off to the sun. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

In the meantime the rest of us who had snow de DIDN'T want <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> will think of you on the beach with your BBQ shrimp – something is not quite right here!!!!!!!

    Take care and have loads of fun <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

in reply to: Where Is The Snow? #23793

    Well it's here

    The snow that is.

It started yesterday evening and it looks like another day for us. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

Oh no it's not normal here, January is usually bright and sunny, but the weather seems to be in parallel with my life at the moment.

Having spent all weekend with our neighbours and friends moving all our worldly goods out of what's left of the barn, we thought it was time for a couple of “quiet” days!!!!!!!!!

Well instead our technical adviser arrived yestreday to finish the foundations this morning – pouring twelve tons of concrete in this weather wasn't funny.
But also yesterday afternoon I went to my freezer and could have cried. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />
I had obviously not closed the door properly last time and it looks like the Ice Age just arrived.

It took the best part of four hours with a wooden spoon and ice pick to get it cleaned up. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

    So we had a nice meal last night and at two this morning the electricity went. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />

Well the combination of snow, half a barn, no heating or cooking facilities for twelve hours – what's next????????????????

We'll probably wake up to find that we live on top of an extinct volcano which has just woken up – AND WE'RE TO BLAME FOR GLOBAL WARMING – arghhhhhhhhh

    Katita – hope you had a great anniversary, you just reminded me we have a couple of bottles of bubbly stashed away – I'm feeling better already <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

    Sometimes I just look up and ask “WHY ME” <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />

    Take a look at the latest photo – I doubt we need to worry about Air Conditioning this summer <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />

Oh well the plans are ready to be filed for the “garage” we now have to build, in the meantime perhaps I could ask you all to pray that the rest doesn't tumble while we are still living inside!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//unsure.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’unsure.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

    Well I have my first new compact in over a year (I prefer to buy them myself from Vegas!!!!!!). <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

It is the Breast Cancer one in the UK – very plain with the Pink Bow in crystals.

My mum and her friend saw it advertised and it was partly to say thanks for yet another two week holiday here (whewwww!) <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> but also when they were here Pauls dad died of cancer. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

    I hope that it will be something which when I see it will remind me of his dad and bring a smile to my face. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

I had a thought yesterday, what if I make something like a book with things that have happened on his birthday every year since he was born.

Then of course I would need to know how to access archives – does anyone know if Newspapers have this facility on the web????

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes, no vineyards or “visiting aliens” this year, just Dad.

Looking forward to celebrating and having a great meal out with Paul when we are alone again.

    Best wishes
    Caroline
