Hi! This site used to be soooo busy.  Posts from all sides of the world several times a day.  Sadly when I check in, its the same.  There’s very little to respond to unfortunately.  I think maybe its because EL doesn’t market the solids very well and hasn’t for a number of years.  I can’t remember the last time they called me to tell me about a solid or invited me to a showing.  I don’t even see very many on this site or the web anymore.  I haven’t seen a catalogue in years and the salesgirls at David Jones and Myer aren’t that interested.  Some don’t even know what a solid perfume is, let alone that it is/was a collectible.  It’s like the whole solid industry has closed down.

The devaluation of our solids made many of us lose interest and we realised that we were probably wasting our money and there were more important things or better ways of investing our money.  EL seemed to lose interest in the product and in its customers.  Sadly our interest waned and with it our ability to have information to share with our Solidperfume friends.  It is very sad and I do still enjoy dropping by, often just as a guest.  I would love to see everyone back here saying “hi”, but I guess life moves on and sadly Lisa’s hard work and website may also one day move on.  I will continue to enjoy dropping by every now and then, even if I have no news to contribute.  I hope everyone is doing well.

I like the idea of a preview. The black makes it easy to read and gives less eye fatigue, but it is a little drab… like everyone else I just love the site. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

    Hi Ann and Ken,

Sorry to hear about your building experience but glad to see you are still enjoying your solids. Will look forward to your pictures… <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

    Sandra,

There is a way around that super fund problem. Put it in an industry fund that's not for profit. If you have access to a Commonwealth govt fund (for govt employees) they are really good (the old ones before they outsourced to all the usual companies). Yes little people are left in the lurch! It seems only the CEOs make anything out of companies these days – the govt should hurry up and legislate against it! There are also some ways of setting up your own super fund – check with your accountant as there are definite ways around having others using your money and leaving you with a tiny nest egg (or none!) in retirement. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

    Hi Sandra,

Yes the weather has been strange. I'm near Campbelltown and it spent all day changing between more dust, less dust, more dust!! I looked at my beautiful shabby chic outdoor setting today and have to spend the weekend cleaning the glass tops of all the tables!! Glad we'll be allowed to use the hose for the clean up. My poor Kelpie spent the night in that dust storm and I didn't even know. So glad I don't have to deal with it regularly like they do in Birdsville!!! Tomorrow is supposed to be 28 then its back to 20 degrees – what is happening?

Anyway, back to solids….. a picture of a display sounds like a great idea. Ann and Ken where are you? Are you like the rest of us – only buying a couple now or are you able to do a picture or two?

    Sandra that giraffe will turn up sometime I am sure…keep looking at ebay… <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

This is just my excuse to do a post since I have so little to say these days…….

One comment: Am I the only one who would like to see some crystals on the general distribution solids?

I know the positive comments from people indicate they like the bigger size but personally I like the smaller solids….

    What do others think? <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

So far, and I had to squint <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> to make it out, I believe the Imperial Horse has “Beautiful” inside.  Then again, I DO need a trip to the eye doctor's.

Actually 3 carousels were brought into Australia – to DJs. I was in store the night before they were released. One went to Melbourne…..but never made it there. The 2 in Sydney were reserved. The next day whilst one was being looked at, a lady walked in and purchased the other with the SA not taking note that it was reserved. The result – one very upset customer.

Meanwhile a family member had reserved the Melbourne one for me and supplied their credit card details. Suddenly that carousel disappeared. Later I was told by an EL employee that the Melbourne one had been taken back to appease the Sydney customer who lost hers. The result – I have been out one carousel – and I know who the parties were who arranged it. “Not happy Jan” just does not cover it! <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

So, no I don't trust EL employees stories anymore. Needless to say I am no longer the customer who buys every solid and every powder compact as I once was. Their loss, my gain. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

Oh don't we all wish there were another carousel?! Someday I hope to tell you all my story about being robbed of my Carousel in Australia by a zealous SA….. too tired tonight. But am sure they would charge over $1000 in Australia for it. Yes $250 was a good price but how were we to know it was the one item that EL would not repeat time after time despite the “limited” label we've all come to distrust so much? <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

Michele is right – it is hard to get posts when so many of us do not collect in volume anymore……but how could we? Are we all millionaires? EL seems to think so! With prices rising and quality falling (less crystals etc)…… and there are some other things in life too for us to spend our precious $ on (though most of us probably can't remember what those things are now “our” site might disappear!).

Brigitte, your English is excellent. I only wish my French were as good!! Still….. Je suis etudiant! ….and I haven't visited France to use it yet!!

I am concerned that so many of us would like to keep in touch if the site ends….. can we come up with an efficient way for us to give our details to each other for this purpose? I am sure there are many who communicate only on the boards but not via e-mail and would not like to loose contact….. any ideas? But maybe I speak too soon….. we live in hope that our Headquarters for communication will remain.

A note that if membership is to increase then we would need a domain name associated with our passion…. one that doesn't set off ELs lawyers like the old one did!!

Lisa, Jack have you considered sending an e-mail newsletter to all members to provide an update on the current situation and draw the extra 675 people back???

    Best wishes to all. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

Guess you are right Jack and we need to log in more. I do, but rarely have much to say….I would so miss seeing everyone's comments though. What has it been…..a decade or so? I remember discovering this site before the forums started and I just loved the pictures of Lisa's collection. Would be so sad to see it close….. Love hearing everyone's comments and hope it doesn't come to this, especially as it gives those of us in countries like Australia access to international news.

I haven't heard any info on any of the solids for this year, Spring, LV or otherwise.

I've noted that not as many are coming into Aust and some (the yellow rose powder for one) haven't sold at all so they are still hanging around at about a quarter of the price if you know where to look. Also the Strongwater rose turned up at sale prices of $60Au. I still thought it was too ugly to buy! Think we have all started to shut up shop as buyers because EL have no idea what we want as consumers.

I'm still interested to hear what they come up with for this year – any info anyone?

Hope everyone is doing well even though we don't chat as much these days. So sorry to hear about the cancelled convention too – what a difference a few years make. <img src='style_emoticons//mellow.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mellow.gif’ />

    Wow – Central to Circular Quay – free!! I'll have to try them next time I'm in the city. I'm in shock – I can't believe it!! <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

    <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />  Hey Lyndell !!  Someone put on free buses doing the city circuit !!

Have you tried them?  They are green (for being environmentally friendly) and go every 10 minutes during the day only.  I think they're a good idea, but would like to see them REPLACE the transport in the city instead of add to the traffic.

We have a new train line built near us, but no trains on it as the next government scrapped it.  What a waste of money !!

Free buses??!! As Rove would say… “What the?!” No I haven't tried them. Where do they go from? Anywhere near Town Hall? I haven't been into the city in a while…only as close as Rosebery and Kensington so I haven't even seen them. What a great idea! I would sooner see the light rail system or a new tram system though. My Grandfather worked on the trams and said they would have to bring them back. I think they should lower not just the traffic but the people too.

I can't believe how in just 10 years the city has become so crowded. I just don't understand why we don't stop anymore growth and make people go out west where there is more room. Twenty years ago noone lived in the city!! Now people only want to live within 12km of it!! Makes my 1.5 hour trip each way look huge. I'm one of those who got 40 degrees followed by 22 degrees the next day, last Monday – but weren't we so glad of the drop in temperature! <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ /> Just wish the hot weather had been kinder to the Victorians. My heart sinks to see the loss of so many people's lives.

As for train lines – ours got cancelled before it got built but now we're getting brochures on the building, even though noone thinks its going ahead! The biggest waste of money has been a bicycle track for miles around the M5 and out to the M7 – I never see anyone use it. The part near us is a death trap that cost multi-millions. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />
