Thanks Sandra – I'm well but spend most of the time in the country where we have no computer access and not much time when we get back to the city but I do “look” into this site whenever I can to keep up-to-date. We had the floods after the awful bushfires but everything is O.K. for the moment except it's REALLY cold up there at night – but that's country living.

    Cheers, Karen 🙂

Perhaps she got an enamelling set for Christmas. She is either using the original Estee Lauder solid perfume compacts without the perfume or she has access to the original casts & enamelling over the E.L. name as they appear to be exactly the same…would be interesting to find out.

    Go for it Jackie!!

Thanks very much Sabrina! I don't think they will be available in Australia though since they are exclusives. Still nice to be able to have a look 🙂

Hi Alice – I live in Melbourne & have found that most of the Neiman Marcus perfume solids come into Australia via the David Jones stores usually late October/early November in time for Christmas. If you do buy from D.J.'s & register your interest they will send you an invitation to view the collection first but of course they are MUCH dearer than the U.S. or U.K. prices.

    Good luck…

Hi Sandra – Yes Victoria is pretty good at the moment thanks. After all the rain & floods everything is beautifully green & with the trees in blossum the countryside is looking great. 🙂

Jenn – David Jones is an upmarket Australian Department store – a bit like Nieman Marcus. It is in all states and used to do exclusive Estee Lauder solids i.e. the hat box and the shopping bag – have a look in the data base. We only get a few of the solids in Australia and only once a year and they are very expensive. I get most of mine from America from a friend who travels back and forth.

Also for some reason it is incredibly hard to get the brochures, here in Victoria anyway. I get one posted to me each year. They are posted from Sydney & when I have been in the Melbourne store to ask for a brochure I am always told they are out of them!! For some years I have been trying to get a brochure for another member on this site but with no success. Perhaps Sandra who lives in Sydney may have more luck for you.

Wow Hello everyone! It's been a while since I last checked in but still a few familiar names!!

I just received my David Jones brochure and they will be selling the 2010 Harrods Bear. I missed out on the last two years but may start collecting them again, it is one of the cheaper solids and no expensive Harrods freight! 😆

Hi Everyone – Long time, no speak….but as I spend most of my time in the country these days (with no computer access) I don't look in as often as I would like.

I thought it strange that the Harrod's Exclusive Christmas Bear was in the David Jones brochure & available to anyone in Australia particularly when Woody was told there were only 150 available. It is selling for $A350 here and the Harrod's Silver Powder Compact is also available for $A500. I think this is the first time David Jones has had any Harrod's exclusives on offer in Australia…Most odd but it makes it easier for us over here.

<img src='style_emoticons//unsure.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’unsure.gif’ /> I have a feeling too that recently there has been a disease spreading through the Tasmanian Devil population – a type of facial cancer that is highly infectuous and killing them off. The wild life people are trying very hard to get on top of the problem as there are so few of them left.

A Tasmanian Devil Solid would be great although they are rather ugly.

Margaret – thanks for that, most interesting. I always use the word 'loo' and in light of what you've said I guess it would date from my time of living in London in the “Swinging Sixties” I think a lot of the words & expressions (and slang) we use in Australia come from England which of course makes sense.

Sandra, I didn't know 'potato cakes' which we use here too originated from
Tasmania. Goes to show how the Solid Perfume site enlightens us in all sorts of areas. Nice friends and a little 'useless trivia' as well.. <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />

MICHELE BEFORE YOU LEAP BACK TO THE SPOOKY FORREST – JUST TO LET YOU

KNOW BOTH THE WORDS DUNNY AND CRAP ARE VERY MUCH AUSTRALIAN SLANG

I ALSO SPELL REALIZE WITH A Z – MAINLY BECAUSE I THINK Z's LOOK MORE

INTERESTING THAN S's AND I SAY 'NAPKIN' NOT SERVIETTE, BATHERS NOT

COSSIES FOR BATHING COSTUMES BUT I THINK THAT IS MORE A

    MELBOURNE THING.

I'M SURE SANDRA YOU WILL AGREE MELBOURNE AND SYDNEY PEOPLE OFTEN

HAVE DIFFERENT WORDS FOR THE SAME THING EVEN THOUGH WE LIVE IN

    THE SAME COUNTRY.

I can only endorse the comments everyone here has made. It was a brave and expensive thing – both in time & money that Lisa & Jack did to start up a website for solid perfume collectors with no financial input from any of us – only the satisfaction that it was a huge success – knowledge was shared and many friendships made. I can understand that when for many reasons the enthusasium waned it was difficult to keep going.

Whatever your decision is Lisa & Jack know that you made a difference. You made it possible for collectors all over the world to come together and share knowledge and friendship – that is a pretty fantastic achievement. We all hope the site will continue but whatever your final decision we all stand behind you and thank you.

    Sincerely, Karen

    Hi All,

Again many thanks for all your kind wishes & thoughts & to you Sandra for explaining the disaster in more detail. I know it must be difficult for those in other parts of the world to understand the total devastation and loss of life and property although I believe it has been well covered by the press & television world wide. I was too close to it & am familar with & know all the beautiful areas that no longer exist. Although I did not personally loose anything there is a deep sense of loss from so many wonderful recent & childhood memories of those areas and of course the soul destroying stories of both the lives lost & those that survived.

Re the arson Margaret – they have caught one person responsible for lighting one of the large fires where about 12 people were killed and the authorities are investigating a further 2 suspicious fires. There were however 30-40 fires across the state some of which are still burning but under control. A number of these fires were caused by power lines coming down in the 120kph winds onto the drought ravaged bush which then just ignited.

Now Queensland which is the northern most part of Australia is experiencing terrible flooding – what a strange thing Mother Nature is.

Hi all & thank you so much for your concern. We are back in Melbourne now having spent the week-end at our country property which is right in the very centre of Victoria. Fortunately the fires are not too near us but had we gone ahead with our plans which we cancelled when we learnt the temperature was going to be 48C (120F) we would have been in the middle of one of the fires. I cannot tell you how totally devasting it is. These bushfires are fireballs propelled by extreme heat & winds destroying everything & everyone in its path – there is no warning, particularly when the wind can change direction in seconds. We have not seen anything like it before & it is the worst disaster Australia has experienced. I personally have good friends who have lost everything – their houses, stables, horses, dogs, stock & property but fortunately not their lives (as yet).

Although I don't know Sandra or can really speak on her behalf I know she lives in Sydney and there is no danger there. N.S.W. has a bushfire in the Hunter Valley – a wine growing area some couple of hours out of Sydney but I believe it is under control. Unless Sandra has travelled into country Victoria over the week-end I'm sure she would be quite O.K.

Country Victoria is in total drought & last week we had 5 days straight of 45C (about 110F) degree temperatures so with the high winds, no rain and dry, dry acres of land you can just imagine how quickly it burns. But this is just horrendous. The stock & wildlife have nowhere to go either.

Sorry I can't be more positive but it's just sole destroying.
