Here's my little story.

For many years I have collected the old powder compacts. Twelve years ago my Husband and I went for a holiday in Vegas and got married at the same time.
I found the wonderful E.L. shop in Caesars Palace and the rest is history.

I don't really collect anymore ( just the odd one that takes my fancy ) due to the warehouse situation.

I have never regretted my collection, it still gives me pleasure to look at them all in their glass case, but the best thing of all is the friends they have brought me on this site.

I've always loved solid perfume, bought it whether it was an EL or not. The first EL solid I bought was the Imperial Dog back in the 70's. Rarely bought anything til a Neiman Marcus opened In King of Prussia, and they had the Circus solids. I was smitten, but resisted. I should know better. 3 years ago I was surfing the internet, and put a generic search in for solid perfume. Lisas' site came up and I was hooked! I had no idea there were so many fabulous solids existed. I have made up for lost time, and now have about 300 of the ELs'. All the good ones, only big one I would love to find is the Imperial Panda. I also have close to 75 other solids, Corday, and whatever strikes my fancy. Collecting solids is like eating potato chips-you can't stop at one!

You said it chowlover2!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> I been collecting seriously since the late 90's. My friend bought me the Puppies solid as a gift and ….. 500 solids later …..

I stopped collecting actively a few years ago, mostly due to warehouse sales, ebay, private sellers, this site…of late it's because of the economy <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> yeah, I know what you're all thinking, What economy?

I love my collection, no matter how cheap I see my “expensive” little beauties on Ebay for, they never lose their value to me. They're beautiful, they smell good, what's not to love?

There are plenty of solids I would love to own, mostly older ones, too many to list.

When I started collecting, I never dreamed there could be a site like this one and so many other people who are crazy like me. It's wonderful. The members here are the best!! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

I started my collection via a trip to Harrods. Watched an Amercian gentleman (and he was a gentleman) buying up solids. I just happened to be at the Estee Lauder counter browsing at the time. We then started a conversation and I asked him why he was buying these items which appeared to be alot of ££££££££ for nothing! He replied that his wife despatched him to London every year to buy up the Harrods' solids. Obviously I became interested as my mind was questioning why a woman would send her husband to London to purchase these items.

And that is when I bought my first i.e. The Harrods Handbag MIB!

Then I found the solid perfume site and wrote that I had this particular solid. And that is how it all began!

There are many many more chapters……..but that will come in a story later!

My Mum was called Margaret and her mother as well….. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> can't say I am keen on the name but you do get sort of stuck with what your parents called you.

I do have The Little White Chapel, alough we were married at the Little Chapel of Candlelight when it was on the strip, they relocated it to make way for new Wynn Casino. The Vegas solids are my all time favourites, its so sad that there won't be any more.

My mother found these little expensive treasures and showed me her collection one day. I thought they were wonderful and then found this site and bought her some that she didn't know existed (only selected ones were sent to Australia and this was pre-internet stage so you had to actually walk out of the house and to the shopping centre to buy things and carry them home).

Anyway, when they arrived I was hooked on them myself and in true 'hoarder' style, I bought up big time, everything and anything . . . obviously regret some of the spontaneous buying now, but overall still happy with what I have even though a lot of it is still boxed up in the cupboard . . .

I think you get over the money thing if you like something enough.

Aaaah Sandra! I never in all these years had any idea that your Mother was the one who got you hooked! That is really lovely to read. Wish you would have told me a long while back.

Margaret, what beautiful memories and I think if EL were to release a Candelabra (excuse spelling), perhaps you would purchase.

Good one Margaret re the gentleman I met at Harrods. Would love to hear if any member on this site had their husband visit.

For me I was browsing ebay looking for estee foundation when I came across the ladybird solid.  This was poignant for me because I lost my Mum on the 31st October last year, and while sitting in the conservatory waiting for the undertakers to do their thing a ladybird landed on the table.  I thought this unusual because of the time of year so they will always make me think of my Mum.

So obviously I bought it and then started looking at the others, now I'm hooked!  And also a lot poorer.  <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

Guess I sort of got started about 35-40 years ago. A family member gave me a Helena Rubenstein compact of Heaven Sent. I loved the perfume and have kept the compact in my jewelry chest all these years. In the 90″s I was in a local department store and bought a sleeping cat with the scent Beautiful. Bought the pig a years or so later. These have been sitting on my dresser for years and I got the bug to collect a few years ago. Maybe it's my age and having the money to do it now. No grandkids yet, just grandcats! No running all over the country to soccer tournments! There's the anticipation of waiting for the seasonal ones to come out. It's also fun to browse antique shops and see compacts made by other companies. To me they are a bit of history also. My children just roll their eyes and cringe at what they may have to deal with some day. Hope I can convince them they had better not just put things out in a garage sale for pennies as they might have something worth Antiques Roadshow!

I inherited a couple of solids from my mother, and since then I've been collecting and only recently have gotten into trying to find the rarer solids, which led to me this site.

I'll have to keep that in mind. I'm sure my daughter would appreciate it. When I showed her a new compact that I had recently gotten, she just rolled her eyes and asked when I thought I would have enough and had I stopped collecting glass shoes.
