My Panda arrived today and I am over the moon! He is everything I thought he would be and more. It's always nice when something you have wanted for awhile lives up to it's expectations. I still have no idea what I will name him ( or her ) but he is front and center in the curio cabinet.

Well Happy Chinese New Year, everyone and let's think of some Chinese names for chowlovers Ivory Panda . . .

    Here's a few ideas:

    Bao (girl) = precious

    Cai (girl) = wealth, money

    Chun (girl) = spring

    Cong (boy) = clever

    Piao (boy) = handsome

Thanks so much Sandra, I really think I like Cai as a name for my Panda, so I guess she is going to be a girl! Many thanks for your help with all the great names, Connie

My source(2)says there are 5 known MIB . There are (who knows how may) that are damaged or were never filled that didn't make it to the stores as we have seen with other solids. So I would say we have seen an example of both on Ebay.

Either way Chowlover got a very good buy . Enjoy 🙂

I won the perfect Panda on Ebay, am ecstatic!!! I have wanted the Imperial Panda since I started collecting solids, and even before I knew he was such a scarce solid. I'm a big bear lover, and he will keep my Imperial Princess company!

Big Congratulations on your Panda! Love her name, too. Was it the Panda without the perfume? I wanted to bid SO bad but knew I wouldn't be able to keep up. I hope we will see the Panda and the Princess again. And congratulations to Mary for the Princess!

The Panda I acquired last year is in perfect condition, has label and perfume but no box. The listing for the one that sold on ebay in 2003 stated no perfume but did have original box.

I just love the Panda!!!! I stop and stare at Cai at least twice a day, I never thought I would have one. Mine is full of perfume with label, no box. I contacted the seller, and she said she was a gift 27 years ago. The panda sat around for years not displayed, so she decided not to sell her. Did anyone on the site get the panda with the chipped paw? I debated on buying that one, as I didn't think the chip affected the looks of the panda too much, but that one went pretty high. With the economy down in the dumper, I thought now was a good time $$$ and thought I got a good buy. I love her, and now can set my sights on finding the pink butterfly and pearl butterfly. The hunt continues….

It's terrible, I can't stop admiring her! I never thought I would find a panda. When I first started collecting solids, I went thru the database. I had actually bought the Imperial Dog when it was released back in the 70's. If a panda had been available at John Wanamakers, I would have bought one as I've always been a bear lover. Solid buying was sporadic over the years, usually a GD solid. Then, I believe in 2000 a Neiman Marcus opened at the King of Prussia Mall and I saw the circus collection. I didn't buy any but a spark was lit. I found this website about 4 yrs ago and I was hooked and there was no turning back this time. Of course I was going thru the database and saw the panda. Mentioned it in a post and found out how rare. That is the story of my life. Whatever I fall in love with is either rare or expensive. Anyway, was in luck with $$$ as I have just taken early retirement from my job at Fedex. I had a total knee replacement in Oct, and my Dr said there was no going back to work there, too much stress on knee. Anyway, I had accrued vacation time and with payout bought panda. It was just a nice coincidence of funds and panda lining up at the right time. Now my Holy Grail of solids is a St John Sunflower. They are just exquisite, and the sunflower is only one I am missing. Most of my collection is EL, but I collect whatever I fancy. I like the older Cordays and whatever oddities I find. If anyone on the site has a St John Sunflower, please contact me!
