Now there are two Pandas on ebay. The first one has damage to the left hand. Bob Conti told me years ago that there are only five Pandas left since EL had production problems with the hand. Looks like some of the damaged ones are making it on to the market. Buyer beware.

References the two princess that are on ebay. All of the cases of the ivory series that the seller found in the attic are tarnished(seller's description). Gold does not tarnish which means there is no gold on the cases. The gold probably came off because of extreme temperatures in the attic. It is costly to replate the cases.

    Hello Ann and Ken,

Thanks for your post! Just a question, am I right as to all the E.L. solids being gold plated? This is what I have always understood but need you to confirm. I doubt whether the copies are!!!!

Not all are gold plated. Re: page 25 Gerson. “and/or 22k gold plated”

Bob told us the Rhodium (seal) was more expense to make than the gold.

Well if the plating process dipped into “copper, nickel and rhodium and/or 22k gold” If the rhodium was more expensive, when did EL stop the plating with rhodium and 22k gold? What is the final plate coat now or since then??

I would think that gold could only unplate with rubbing? not temperature extremes? It could be a case of what the solids where wrapped in. If they were perhaps wrapped in newspaper, the black ink could have rubbed or just transferred onto the surface making it appear tarnished. I have had that occur with some solids I purchased. As soon as I cleaned them up and polished them with a jeweler's cloth, they were back to original stunning. I think the key design tends to look tarnished very quickly anyway, I wonder if a professional cleaning might shine it back up also? But, to me, it's such a coveted solid, I would take her a little tarnished!! LOL!

There are now THREE pandas on ebay. That means if three people on this site have pandas then there were more than 5 made. Is this possible? Im thinking just like all the others EL made more then they let on. How many members here have a panda?

    Hi, Ann and Ken,

Would you please clarify about “the five Pandas that are left”? Do you mean there are only 5 Pandas left that are in mint condition? Does anyone know how many damaged ones are out there?

Regarding the “attic find”: the seller did send me another message later saying he “didn't know that was a braid” on the Princess (which I had pointed out to him in an earlier message was broken off) and had changed his listing accordingly. The seller insisted there was no other damage to any of the solids “just tarnish”. I haven't looked again at his listings. Something is definitely not right.

    Thanks for your help!

Hi Ar, I had seen a third early this morning then when I looked again it wasnt there any longer. Maybe it was an ebay error or maybe the seller removed it. Who knows. Perhaps Im just seeing pandas all over now. I am definately keeping my eyes open though.

I won the perfect Panda on Ebay, am ecstatic!!! I have wanted the Imperial Panda since I started collecting solids, and even before I knew he was such a scarce solid. I'm a big bear lover, and he will keep my Imperial Princess company!

WOW!!! I'm glad he went to someone who will appreciate him so much. Please let us know if he is “perfect” when you get him (no chips, etc.). Congratulations!

I bought the princess with the broken braid and am hoping that she cleans up well. I will post on how she turns out.

The good thing about the boken braid is that when she is displayed, no one will know but you. The hinge is broken on my Princess, but no one knows as which was a great price. You really don't notice it unless you know solids and are looking for it. I have all the camellias, and one has a chip off the petal. I got it on Ebay for $58, which was a great price. Again no one knows, and I think only a solid lover would spot it as you really have to look for it. I love her as much as my perfect camellias. I have no idea what I am going to name Mr Panda. I would like to give him a Chinese name, but I'll have to see about that. I have 2 Chow Chows which are Chinese dogs, and really wanted to give them Chinese names. One is Rita and one is Beau, so I struck out with that…
