I can't believe there's a starfish on Ebay already! How long has it been out in stores, all of 2 weeks?
I agree! It is brand new and no box out of Canada!
So soon after it's release date? Yeah, and I bet EL would say that they've discontinued the warehouse sales. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />
There are other ways to skin a mouse! Read into this what you will!
<img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
Okay Jacqueline, what should I be reading and why would you want to skin a mouse? <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ />
OH DEAR… All these old English sayings of ours must get you all mixed up.. <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
We in the north of England say……”There is always more than one way to skin a cat”.
Meaning….. More than one way to get your own back, or more than one way of doing something
Hope you don't mind me “Letting the cat out of the bag” Jacky…..or the mouse.. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Margaret……. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
Okay – so I'm sick and tired of these different languages and sayings – I want everyone to speak Esperanto! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
I am just kidding – it is fun to hear all the different sayings everyone has.
Hi Katita…. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />Funny you should say that, with being dyslexic Esperanto always made perfect sence to me. Its so much easier to spell a word the way it is pronounced.
Margaret….. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
This is exactly why I stopped buying the new solids. The only one I bought is the Texas solid because it goes with my cowboy hat and boot and my husband was born in TX. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought any of the new solids.
I also bought the Vegas dice. That was it for me.
It's impossible to get even what I paid originally for many of my solids and the Ebay sales are so depressing. Even the older pieces are dropping in price. Many of the solid pieces are similar. For example, the peace compact for SAKs and the general distribution one are the same, except for the colors of the crystals. Seems like the quality and creativity just isn't what is used to be.
JMHO
Thanks Margaret for letting the cat out of the bag! I knew when I wrote about the mouse that something was wrong! I must have been thinking about my new computer mouse and I apologise!
Meanwhile Katita, when I wrote ''there are other ways to skin a (cat)'' I was inferring
that the solids coming out of Canada etc., are NOT(?) from the Warehouse but are
coming from another source.<img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
Hello 2cute4U2, I do agree with you re the older solids! At one time you could never find them for love or money and when they appeared, the price was high!
I remember waiting a long time before I managed to find my Dragon, Jester and
also the Blue Cowboy Hat etc. etc.I also agree with you re the quality of the newer solids. Some of the new releases, to my way of thinking, are way over-priced and are no match for the older releases!
But, I do think the prices will increase again. There are many new Collectors of Solid Perfumes, and the U.K. market appears to be blossoming.
I love to see the prices going high (even
if it means I have to stop bidding).QUOTE(Jacqueline @ Jan 25 2007, 04:09 PM)<img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />

I remember waiting a long time before I managed to find my Dragon, Jester and
also the Blue Cowboy Hat etc. etc.But the new collectors think that they should be able to get the old solids at below what I paid for them 6 years ago. It is really hard to respond to an offer on ebay . How do you explain to a new collector that you are sorry you won't accept their offer without hurting their feelings. But I just can't justify losing $200 or more just to sell one of my solds.
The general production solids that I have to pay 87.10 for(remember texas sales tax) they want them for $30 ….and then I have to take out 20% for ebay fees and paypal fees….I can't afford to give them away…..sigh

Hello Kasi, I share your sentiments 100%.
I will not give my older solids away at ridiculous prices! The new Collectors
will just have to wait and appreciate that the older Collectors are not prepared
to just give these much sought after solids away at whim! Also, and I don't want my head bitten off here, I get really annoyed when
I see Collectors selling off their solids dirt cheap! This does nothing for
our collections or the market. Yes, everyone is entitled to sell for whatever
price they wish but, and again you may disagree with me, if you want to sell
at way below the value of the item, do it PRIVATELY. Surely we all know enough
Collectors to do it this way! If I have something that I am happy to sell
cheap I try and contact a few people offering it to them. I think that
by displaying low, low prices, this is having a knock down effect on the market
and creating the attitude that everything can be given away for nothing. Then when someone asks why our collections are decreasing in value, they have the answer staring them in the face. We all enjoy finding that item we want
at a lower price but search for it and find someone who is prepared to sell……..
don't advertise it at a knock down price all over the place.Ebay and PayPal fees at the moment are something we cannot get away from.
If that means raising the price of the item to accommodate these fees, sobeit!
The other option is to wait for the special listing days and only to accept cash
transfers or personal cheques. The option is our own and perhaps if we all
waited for these special promotional days, Ebay would get the message. All these points are for us to consider and it is, to my way of thinking, up to
us to ensure that we do not create a false impression re pricing and to keep
our collections at the value they should be and to increase with time.<img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
I do agree with you that solids should not be selling at such cheap rates and I think EL has a lot to do with their being cheap solids for sale in the first place.
I take heart in the fact that when I buy a solid, it's off the market cause I ain't selling <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> When I think of the older solids I have and how some of them are rarely seen for sale on-line (ebay, other auction houses, RubyLane..etc) I'm happy to think I'm keeping the price up by keeping them off the market <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> (I hope) <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
As for new collectors, if you want cheap, collect Avon. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
WELL SAID KATITA! CAN WE QUOTE THAT FROM NOW ON……..
''IF YOU WANT CHEAP, COLLECT AVON!''
<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />Had to laugh at that….I am sorry I was venting this morning. But I was just so upset, I had just gotten an offer of $300 on the teardrop solid from Harrods that was a harrods exclusive….When you consider that when we bought it ( I think pamela, and Ann/Ken and I all were in the same shipment, so correct me if I am wrong) We paid pounds 250 which translated into over $475 in USA dollars plus the shipping which wasnt cheap. So I was hoping my memory was right at $525 was close to what I needed to break even…..and then to get an offer for $300 was like a slap in the face. None of my solids are warehouse solids or cosmetic company solids as when I started buying “we” didn't even know about those places I bought retail.
It also pains me to see some of our members( Yeppers Woody I'm talking about you) selling solids so cheaply. I know your philosophy is that if you get it cheap on ebay you try to make a little money and resale it….but I still think it cheapens the entire line of solids when you are selling them for that little. Yes it is great for the members that don't have them, but it still brings the price of the entire market down, which in the long runs hurts everyone.
I have because of ebay fees only been running the ones I have for sale either here or when ebay runs a special like they did two weeks ago. Losing 20% in fees hurts big time, especially when you are taking a bath price wise on what you originally paid. When I started selling my collection a year ago, I figured I would be able to sell it all in about 6 months, little did i realize that about a year later I would still be selling them. But I refuse to take over a 50% loss on a solid….so therefore I am still selling them. I plan to after I get my company books closed out next week, update my list of what is still available and then will post a new list…..I have been pulling all my receipts and all my ebay paperwork on each solid, to make sure I can put rock bottom prices on those that are left. So hopefully I will have that all done by March and will let y'all know. if you are looking for anything special give me a hollar and I will see what I have left.
