Has anyone heard anything about this year's spring solids? Are there to be any, considering how few solids EL released for autumn/christmas? Last year the spring solids where out in the shops by christmas already, so what is happening??

I think the poor economy has finally caught up with EL. I too heard there would be no spring solids. Look how few GD solids came out for Christmas this year. So sad as all the solids released last Christmas were quite exceptional. I am curious if EL is going to abandon making solid perfumes…

I heard the rumour too re the solids. Mind you with the old empties etc., flooding ebay, it is not surprising that there has been a decrease in sales plus the economy. There was a time when you had to hunt for these older ones but now they are appearing in droves.

Estee Lauder should have stopped the copies a long while ago, so it is not surprising, to say the least!

Hope you all enjoyed the holidays…we nearly had a white Christmas!

I would hate if Estee gave up production of solids all together. That would be heart breaking to me. To me the fact that Ms. Lauder began production of the solid perfumes beginning in 1967/8, would have her rolling in her grave if this wonderful tradition was haulted!! ugh! I feel ill!

I wonder if solid perfume collectors should write their corporate headquarters to let them know how much we enjoy the tradition of solid perfumes and Estee Lauder. I also believe making the collections limited, numbered releases would help. It would make it difficult for me to buy, but I would rather see the solids carry on and will still charge at least one a year!! I think the flood of empties reflects the same thing as the housing market there was an increase of supply in those years. I am sure that is changing.

I hadn't been on ebay to see a pearl butterfly. Did anyone here win it? If so, pictures please of your prized win!!

What does everyone think about a letter/email/facebook solid perfume petitioning to Estee corporate? Do I need to make that a topic??? I will if needed!!

    Hello Butterflies,

In the 'old' days, E.L. used to read our posts (if I am correct) and many of the points you raised were actually written about on the site. There were so many avid collectors and we really had a good time of it especially chasing the older solids which were hard to find! Unfortunately, once the copies started flooding the market it took something away from us, i.e. the collectors. Many of the copies are not the originals (as the description infers)…. I do not want to go down this road again but suffice to say, many have been made up from the discontinued molds, stones applied later by people not employed to do so. Had this not happened, I feel personally we would not be in the situation we are now…… I don't want to buy solids without the original perfume (even if only the scrapings of one that has evaporated etc., with time)…

So all those involved with all this only have themselves to blame for the evaporated interest. As they say, what goes round comes round….

I am not writing anymore on this subject but as for sending a letter or whatever to the Corporate Office, we collectors are only a small drop in the pond for a gigantic company whose umbrella covers many brands.

Will just search for the elusive genuine article and have stopped purchasing anything that looks like a copy or that instinct tells me is coming from a source which I would not particularly trust.

Well, this topic should get us collectors posting up a storm! That includes myself to come out of the woodwork so to speak. While I'm sad and disappointed about no spring solids, I'm not at all surprised or shocked about it. The reason is looking back at EL's decisions and behavior concerning our solids for at least five years. I'm used to lots of enamel and crystal stones set into them. EL has decreased in putting in those items in my opinion than in past years. Its been already mentioned about lack of solids in this past fall/holiday collection. Don't get me wrong, in the past five years I've bought some solids which I really do like and enjoy. I've mentioned the past and present. Now what about the future of our solids and what is EL going to decide? That's the million dollar question. I will be very interested and very curious to hear about if a 2011 Holiday collection will be made, if so what will those solids will look like, how many different solids will made and to see if the Harrods Bear will be. Surely, EL cannot give up on our beloved bears. Its their decision, so as time will go by and as the year progresses, we will see.

    Have a good day everyone,

Hello Gigi, Nice to see you…

As I have always been given to understand it is not Estee Lauder who commission the Harrods' Bears. It was (I was told in the past) Harrods who commissioned Estee Lauder for the Harrods solids. I cannot see that E.L can just go out, make a solid and then endorse it with the Harrods' logo. I was also told this was a pet project of Mohd. Al Fayed. Therefore, if the information is correct, we must look to Mohd. Al Fayed who, I believe, is still involved with Harrods, to continue in this vein and thank him for 'giving' us Collectors items which ARE collectable……… 😉

Well, I hope Mr. Al Fayed reads our comments then, if EL is not!!! I really love the little bears, even though I am yet to afford one! But they are all on my “hunt” and “wish” lists!!

I have become very careful, trying to not buy any solids which could be a copy or “refilled” or look like the stones have been messed with. That is why I very much appreciate the wonderful friends on here that sell. I prefer to purchase from trusted sources. I do hope that even if we are drops in the pond, if you put enough drops together you can get one heck of a storm! I do know that the solid perfumes where Ms. Lauder's loved project from what I have been told by some consultants that worked for EL for many years. One told me that when Ms. Lauder passed, that the view of the management pulled away from the value of the consultants and of the solids. I personally hope that as the economy changes, that EL will re-evaluated the tradition and monetary possibilities of solid perfumes. Especially as there are many companies now that are also producing solid perfumes. Mind you, they are not as elegant as the EL solid's, but some are also angling to be very collectible. (For example Bond #9, Molinard, Diptyque)

I really hope to see the holiday or even a yearly solid release by EL.

I called my EL rep at Neiman's last week and she confirmed she had attended a meeting where they were told that there would be no spring solids this year. She did say that they were NOT told there would be no fall solids so she said not to give up hope! I told her how disappointed I was and that I certainly expected to see 2011 Holiday solids at least. So, we shall see…

Thanks for the update! Everyone cross your fingers now…and legs and arms and anything else you can cross to bring us 2011 EL solid series! LOL!

I may be crucified for this, but I think when there were only holiday solids, that made them more special and collectible. It was more fun. I once called stores all over the U.S. to find a solid (can't remember which one, though!). So if EL discontinues the spring solids it will not break my heart. I think producing spring solids actually flooded the market with too many to choose from. Okay, shoot me! 😛

You know what they say about opinions… LOL!

Yes, you do have a point there. But the flood of the market was not just the spring and holiday releases. Bottom line if you truly make “limited editions” and number them, limit the productions to say 1000 or 5000, then you don't have to worry about that. I have seen both points made here. I just do not wish to see the production of a yearly release halt forever. BTW, have any of our UK Harrod's members seen anything about if Harrod's is releasing any solids this year yet? That will be interesting to see also.

So far, I have not seen anything new at Harrods. Will keep you updated.

Meanwhile I must agree with Ar. Had the solids been limited instead of

producing as many as they can sell (with lots over ending up in the Warehouse Sales) there would have been a much better outcome.

So, I'm with Ar……….you can't shoot both of us, or can you!!!!! 😮
