Did anyone out there go to the convention in Las Vegas? And if so please share whatever info you got while there. Woody, we really missed you going this year as you keep us up to date on all things EL!
I know Margaret is there, but she is on vacation and can't get to a computer I am thinking. You would think that someone from Estee Lauder – as we know they view the website daily – would post something. I guess we'll have to wait for the PowderPuff Newsletter to come out. The only ones I am really excited to hear about are the Harrods items. Not so much of anything else.
Woody
The lollipop and candy cane are on ebay, listed by someone who bought them at the convention. They are really cute!
ArYeah – someone went to the convention, bought solids to put on Ebay, but no one ever signed on here to let us know anything. I guess this years convention was a bust and no one wants us to know. Not even a word on Harrods. I guess they didn't go either.
OMG! $185 for the general distribution solids? I think we can all wait a month or 2 and only pay $85 for them. Or less if we wait for the warehouse sales… They are adorable though. We shall have to wait for our friend Margaret to give us the solid scoop, asshe is the only one who regularly posts here. Katita, you generally always see the latest solids, have you seen the Dancing bears or Cathedral in person yet? Those are the two I am most interested in. I hate running out to buy, when I know we will find them on Ebay in a few months. I was glad I waited for the Foo Dog and Bonsai Tree last year. I can buy more solids with what I save by waiting…
The general distribution solids are available at the New York and Las Vegas Estee Lauder stores now. Would be nice to hear how the convention went.???
Hello everyone……… <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />I have just got back to England……hope this post reads ok as I have not had any sleep yet and the time factor is a killer.
I enjoyed the convention a lot and it was so good to see old friends again ( to me this is what it is all about…..not just solids and powders )
I did say before I went that I was not going to buy any solids…..BUT…. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> I fell in love with the Candy Cane, Lollipop Twist and the little Gingerbread man, all three now have a good home in England….. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
For me the best solids were the Harrods ones and Allison (from Harrods) put a really good display on and seemed to be taking a lot of orders…..as she could only stay in Vegas for a few days and its such a long way to go for a short stay I hope she did well. The Jeweled Flag of Britian solid ( Bling Bling ) took my eye also Crossing the Thames ( London Bridge ) and for all you bear fans the Harrods Christmas Bear is really cute.
I will try and post more soon……got to get some sleep…… <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
My very best wishes to you all……..Margaret
Hi Margaret! Welcome back! Can't wait to get more news. The Harrods ones sound great! I was waiting to hear about them.
Woody
Welcome back Margaret. We have all been waiting for news of the convention. Can you believe your post is the first we have heard with any news. The Candy Cane ,Lollipop and Gingerbreadman are adorable. I can't wait to see the new Harrods, they sound spectacular this year!
Glad you had a good time and arrived home safely. I hope we get pics of the Harrods! They sound good.
Take care,
Katita
Thanks so much for your post and the convention news Margaret. You went beyond the call of duty so to speak in getting the news to us before getting settled and getting some sleep from your trip. From my own experience going “across the pond” is a killer once I get there, but then I get used to the time change and its fine.
The Harrods solids do sound very interesting indeed. Can't wait to see this year's bear. I bet Allison was busy. I hope this tells Harrods management its worth the travel costs for them because of the business they would do directly with “States customers”. We'll see what happens in the future with this.
Thanks again Margaret,
GigiThanks everyone…….will post some more soon. This time the jet lag has really got to me, I still have not had much sleep and my Hubby and I got up and cooked a meal at 3am this morning…… <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
Margaret
Hello everyone…….. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />As most of you will know the 2008 powder compact was held in the Golden Nugget Casino, downtown Las Vegas.
The casino had been refurbished and was looking very swish with its new “swim with the sharks pool” and new decor
Hubby and I opted to stay in Treasure Island as we were taking two weeks holiday and we wanted to stay on the strip. Boy did we get lucky!!!!!!!! We were given a large room on the penthouse floor and the view along the strip was to die for.
The convention itself was good but was not as well attended as the Rhode Island one last year, never the less this did in no way spoil our enjoyment of the whole thing……good food, good speakers and best of all good to catch up with the friends I had made in 2007.
We enjoyed our morning at Estee Lauder and to see the new Solids and Powders was a true treat.
My three favourites were the Candy Cane, Lollipop Twist and the Holiday Treat. All three were good value for money at $85 each, in fact I was very suprised at how large they were.
The Jewelled Spider I felt looked a little squat and would have been a lot better if the legs had been longer.
The Dancing Bears and Nesting Doll are true collectors pieces but are expensive at $350. The Jay Strongwater Prancing Pony is really well done and will be a good addition for all you animal collectors. The one that I did not like was the Cathedral Square, I felt for the money it was rather small and did not capture the true essence of that type of building.
I was very dissapointed in the new powder compacts on display and there was nothing that I would have wanted to buy.
Once more it would seem that the Harrods ones came out the best. Crossing the Thames is expensive at £250 or about $500 but the bridge does open and put against the Cathedral Square is better value for the extra money.
For all you bear collectors the Harrods Christmas Bear is so cute I'm sure you all will be ringing Harrods with your orders.Margaret……..
Thanks for the convention news. The Harrods sound really good this year, I can't wait to see pics of them.
I'm so glad you had a good vacation, wow – nice room!

Welcome back Margaret and really glad you and hubby enjoyed your stay.
Also thank you for the ''blurb'' on the new solids. Was very surprised to see the English Rider included as I was told on several occasions i.e. by phone and actually visiting the store, that this one was limited to 40. I expect this will surprise Woody also!
The bear for this year looks lovely.
Once again I would be hesitant to spend a load of money on items which are high priced and will no doubt be on sale lower through ebay but shall wait and see. Buying in the States works out alot cheaper so will have to study what's there in time for any future visits.
Thanks for bringing back the sunshine Margaret!
xx
