As you know I bought the “junk” circus tent and plan to find a trazpez artist (which I think I have) but I also bought a sad little black cat on his pillow who had lost his ears – I worked with Filmo, a hair dryer which at the highest heat holding close made the Filmo set up hard. Then I Dusted him with L”Oreal black eye shadow and he looks stunning! Here is is picture “after” the before was just too sad lmsw1MemberJuly 18, 2004 at 4:56 amPost count: 151
Wow Lori, you're a veritable solids-doc… can you post photos of your trapeze repairs when you're done, to show us what you've managed to accomplish? <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />MicheleMemberJuly 18, 2004 at 12:31 pmPost count: 874
Hi Lori –
You did a beautiful job on the black cat…very creative! However, it concerns me that there would possibly be sellers out there, possibly dealers, who know the same tricks and can take broken solids and repair them. Even more reason to know your seller before buying! <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
Regardless, great job! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />ribbitdenverMemberJuly 18, 2004 at 6:40 pmPost count: 79
VERY good point! A person who has never seen a certain solid would have no way of knowing. My kitty has a slighty crooked ear that I just couldn't get to go straight before it dried- so to a collector is would be obvious – but you sure have a point! It would matter the time it takes vs. the sale $$$ This took nothing really in expense as I had the black Filo and I use the black eye shadow alot in repairs – you'd be so shocked at what black mascara and eye shadow can do! LOL And it took me about 45 min to get the sculpt right.
I can only hope these trash sellers don't have the energy to fix what they sell.

What is filmo?
I once talked about doing a repair to an ivory series solid using acrylic- the stuff for nails.ribbitdenverMemberJuly 18, 2004 at 10:05 pmPost count: 79
Filmo is a clay, comes in every color you can imagine – even ivory! It's a 2″ x 2″ block and sells about $3 in craft stores. After it is molded it needs to be heated and it sets rock hard. Then it can be buffed, I like the nail boards for fake nails. Makes cure little animals etc.LisaMemberJuly 18, 2004 at 10:17 pmPost count: 2664
Ahhhh…. very interesting.
Thanks for the tip, great job and for sharing with us. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />DeniseMemberJuly 18, 2004 at 10:44 pmPost count: 285
What wonderful imagination! It would have never crossed my mind to try something like that and I think your Cat looks cute!
I was also curious to what Filmo was, so I did a search on the Internet and found this link which one has to scroll down to click on another link, and eventually you can buy it online at a Yahoo Site.
Here is the first link:

I managed to dig up the photo of the repair that I did. Not perfect but better (I think) <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />
The left half of the ear was missing on the cat and the tip of the rabbits ear was gone.mimiMemberJuly 19, 2004 at 5:10 pmPost count: 506

Lori and Lisa,
My congratulations, too. Great job!ribbitdenverMemberJuly 23, 2004 at 10:11 pmPost count: 79
Ok The “JunK” Circus Tent now has a “Star!”
By the way I was discouraged, even though they were in bubble wrap they arrived in just a plain brown envelope. Doesn't anyone use boxes?? This is the second time in a week I had stuff sent this way and the other one had broken Items.
Lisa your repairs are great! Don't sell yourself short you did a super job!!!!!LisaMemberJuly 23, 2004 at 10:33 pmPost count: 2664
Wow! It really looks great! Just love the pink skirt. Where did you find her?

Well, I tried to guess dimensions. You know those new Italian Charm Bracelets the little silver squares with designs etc. Well i found one with a dangle and it was a dancer so I thought the square was little more than 1/4″ or so and so the dancer had to be small and I took a chance
I think she looks greatAuthorPostsViewing 14 posts - 1 through 14 (of 14 total)
