The Estee Lauder Compact Exhibit opened last night at Nieman Marcus in Dallas (NorthPark). There were quite a few people there and they were taking home BAGS of solids!
The exhibit itself featured 81 solid perfumes and 11 powder compacts. There was a 1972 Golden Seas Necklace, and a 1974 Sport Necklace (which I had not seen in person before). They featured all the circus solids as a “Country Carnival” theme.
There were no eggs, balloons, cameos, fruits, or some of the rarer older solids.
I wasn't able to get many answers from anybody about the availability of the Bejeweled Bottle overseas or at other stores.
/ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> Bob told me that the flyers featuring the yellow or green dragon are not correct. They had considered different colors for the dragon before finally settling on red. The flyers were done with prototypes before the final color was picked. So, no, there isn't a different international version of the dragon. One question answered!

Hey – you didn't happen to have a chance to swipe the Carousel from the Circus theme, did you? <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Gee, Sandra, I think they planned ahead. There was a Magic Dragon on display, too. Everything was behind GLASS. No touching…no swiping! <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ />
Catherine
<img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Drats!! Maybe you should have planned ahead too and brought along somw glass cutters, and while your husband was entertaining the masses well, you know . . . . . <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Hi Catherine
Great Pix and descriptions. Sound like you had a blast. Thanks for all the information re the bejeweled bottle. Did I miss something? What were the two spring solids being released in January?
Phyllis
Sorry – just saw the posts under the NM Spring solids.
Phyllis
Phyllis,
Thanks for the nice comments on my pictures. I posted all the info I had on the 2 Spring solids under the topic “2006 Nm Spring Solids.” I posted pictures of the Hummingbird and the Peacock that will be released in January. They are pretty. I just don't know how much $$$. <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ /> Wish somebody could've clued me about the prices, but I'll be saving for the Peacock anyway. <img src='style_emoticons//wub.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wub.gif’ />

Hi Catherine,
Nice to see photos of you and your husband. He's a good sport to go.
Well, I wonder how long it will be before the yellow or green dragon will be one ebay?? <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ />
Looks like you had great fun <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> [/COLOR]Catherine,
Thanks so much for your very informative report on the cocktail party at NM. You look beautiful in your photos and am so very happy to see you in person ( I do just love putting faces with names) Your husband sure looks like he had fun too!
Thanks again for all the great photos too!
Thank you Catherine for sharing this with us!!! I feel especially envious right now since I recently found out that EL in Scandinavia will not have any solids at all this christmas <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> I have not been able to find out why they made this decision but I know that the solids didn't sell out last year so perhaps that is why. At least it seems that they will get some powders but still it is very sad news…. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />
Karin
Karin,
That is sad news that you won't have the solids in time for Christmas. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> Maybe you can buy some over here?
Lisa,
Neimans will never be the same after my husband's appearance! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Those ladies were mesmerized with him and his stories! He told some of them he was a retired airline pilot (lie), but he could get away with it since he is a pilot (non-current) and knows airplanes. Plus my father was an instructor at American Airlines. He can bluff real good. I clued some of them in that 50% of the time he is lying and the other 50% of the time, he's not telling the truth. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> He's a real people-person and loves to be around the ladies. He tells them he's looking for a 23-year old big-busted blonde who's father owns a chain of liquor stores! I tell them, he wouldn't know what to do with her when he finds her! When I have somewhere to go in the evening, he says he's going to find a hot date; to which I reply, “which nursing home are you going to?”
He had about 5 ladies at Neimans surrounding him listening to his stories, when I walked up. He was talking about our trip to Las Vegas in August. I told them how he took over as the “Information Guy” at baggage claim while he was waiting for my plane to get a gate. He spotted these guys holding signs with names on them and asked them what they were doing. They said they had limos and were waiting for passengers. So he went over to the information desk, got a piece of paper, wrote “RICK PERRY” on it and held it up. People came up and asked him if he was really there to pick up the governor. “Yup,” he said. But when asked if he had a limo, he told them the governor was very cost conscious and he had a Ford Taurus in the parking lot waiting for him. They believed him. He does it all with a straight face. I never know what will come out of his mouth! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Catherine
