Quality Issues With New Solids

In shopping for solids at both NM and Saks this year, I had to go through quite a few solids before I found the ones that I would take home. I was really surprised at the poor quality of some of the solids. The color on the enamel running where it shouldn't, sloppily placed stones, loose hinges, etc.

But here's something funny I noticed when I got home. I purchased the Flowering Flacon at Saks. I thought something didn't look right. Anyway, the flowers on top are turned backwards from the picture that Lisa posted before. Mistake? I think it probably is.

Everyone of the Flowering Flacons that I have seen has been like the one I bought. There is one on Ebay right now just like mine (Ebay Item Number 6550088271) with the two flowers facing back.

Anyone else noticing quality issues? I'm tempted to take back the whole lot of my recent 2005 purchases (except maybe my Lucky Dragon)! Catherine

Catherine, great eye and yes, it does look like a mistake, for sure the front should showcase the two flowers! Here we go again!

Definitely a mistake with this one. I had to look at it a few times and once
I had the hinge in perspective, it said it all!

Meanwhile for those of you who will be purchasing the Elephant, (which I did like), I noticed that it had one gold tusk and one white tusk. I questioned this
and the S.A then explained that one of the white tusks was missing but they
had another Elephant which was 'perfect'!

So when buying this solid, check the tusks and make sure they are both
firmly fixed. Unless, of course, you would like one gold, one white!

I have not bought any of these solids!

Now I am really nervous – thanks Lisa for the notice in my email. My JS solids are on the way to me now – I hope they're okay when they arrive – I'll let everyone know. This whole collecting this year has become very distressing to me. I'm going to the August 11 Bergdorf “meet with Sue Grundfest” which will also showcase the new solids – I have many questions I hope will be answered at that time – again, I'll let everyone know (if anything) what I find out.

Hello Catherine and Lisa,
Lisa your EMail arrived at the very moment the delivery man arrived with my Flacon. Catherine mine is just like yours. Only one flower is facing in the same direction as the bow. I definately think this is wrong. But I still like the Flacon. I also received the Lucky Hearts powder compact. It looks like a Queen of Hearts playing card. It is very nice. The design and shape are the same as the Erte horiscope compacts.

I THINK THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE WORTH A LOT! MISTAKES ALWAYS ARE WORTH MORE THAN THE ONES THEY GET RIGHT! HANG ON TO IT. SOMEONE SHOULD CALL EL CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THE QUALITY ISSUES. FOR THE PRICES THEY CHARGE; IT'S AMAZING THERE IS NOT MORE Q.C.

Can anyone tell how the upper part is attached to the lower part ? Maybe it's possible to turn it without destroying it ???

It is on there GOOD. I don't think it can be turned or taken off without damaging the solid.

My goodness…seems frightening to spend the amount of money we do and not have a perfect compact. My dragon will arrive this evening from NM, and now I will truly do a closer inspection…or get my daughter with the “good eyes” to look for me! I will go to Saks Monday after a doctors appointment and check out what they have. Thanks to y'all for the warning. Linda

From what I can find out is they are all made that way with the 2 flowers turned backwards.
If it is a mistake they made all of them that way. Maybe when the second batch comes out they will correct it . Thank you very much for the e-mail regarding the possible quality faults on the EL solids. They seem to issue more and more and as they do the price goes up and up! If they continue with this they will put a lot of collectors off, I know I have been! Thank you for the e-mail warning! Much appreciated!

This is getting distressing – and here I was only worried about the quality of solids I bought on eBay!!!!!

If I can't even buy directly from Estee Lauder and be assured of a quality compact, I'm very nervous to buy at all. For someone who is new to collecting compacts this is a real disappointment….

To me, the Flacon looks ridiculous backwards – I wouldn't keep them (unless I didn't have to pay for it) – why pay for their mistakes. Return them all and don't accept it for the money you have to pay!! If that happened over here, you would either get a HUGE discount or they would all be taken off the shelf and returned. Sorry to all those you like it and bought it, and thanks to Catherine for pointing it out!!

This is one on my list. I'm looking at the brochure “presenting holiday 2005” and sure enough 2 flowers forward and one back.
Hmmm………I'll get my photos from the EL brunch and zoom in to see what it looks like.
