Yes, agree with you and Ar… I had the same experience here in the U.K.

Due to the fact that I am never told the truth, I have stopped buying!

All the sales people say the items are limited but it appears they are limited to how many they can sell!

My £££££'s therefore stay in my pocket!

Gone are the days when you received a concise and truthful answer…….

P.S. How come E.Lauder are not checking re the new items now appearing on Ebay….perhaps they just don't care!

I don't think ELs' current management is as savvy a businesswoman as Estee Lauder herself was. I remember in my youth, it being a big thing when EL released a new perfume. Now it seems everytime I go to the cosmetic counter a new fragrance has been released. I have been to the EL Company Store, and seen scents there I have never even seen for sale in stores. I'm guessing they were released somewhere and didn't do well. It costs big bucks to formulate and market a fragrance, so I guess EL has money to burn. I know Estees' sons were business savvy, but don't think the grand- daughters have the business sense Estee had. It seems they are always in the social columns and business is just a sideline for them. Look at all the solids that were released last year, especially the re-makes of solids from the 70's. Have they run out of ideas? First they need to cut production of what they release so they are special again. I have seen many good ideas for solids on this site if EL has run out…

Has anyone seen the Tiger from 2009 for sale on Ebay? It says Estee Lauder on the inside. Is this a prototype or a new release?

Check it out and thanks for all the help.

HI Katita….I saw it. It is from the NE where the factory is so it could be something that will be released or a sample. I have bought a few prototypes lately and a few are dated 2009. They may or may not be released. It's a guessing game until we see the rest of this year's releases..

Yeah, I saw it too – and quite liked the look of it !

On another note, since not having purchased any new solid for a few years, I have still been watching them go around on ebay every now and then, and just recently have purchased some because they were the 'right price' for me !

Since receiving them, it has reignited my love affair with them ! <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />

Thanks Woody and Sandra for the info.

Hi Sandra – what did you get? I only buy after market these days as well – no use in wasting money on what can be gotten for less. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

I still do love the solids but I have no love to give EL any $.

    Best to all,
    Katita

Seems like a few of us were watching the Tiger. I loved the look of it and just read the post from Ann and Ken. It was the first time I had seen it but to be honest, have not been watching the E.L solids so much, so thought it was a release which I had missed.

    Hi Sandra!

Give a shout when you are coming this way. Our £££££ is low, so if anyone is passing through London, would love to hear.

Thanks, Brigitte! I love the sleigh. The jukebox would look great with the gramophone. Uh oh, I wasn't going to buy any………. let's see if I can muster some willpower.

    Hi Katita, I scored a spinning top, a snow globe and the sydney opera house that I said I'd never buy . . . ! <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

I also bought Crossing the Thames but paid about the retail price for it, though got much cheaper shipping than I would have from Harrods.

Hi Jacky – yeah, would definitely give you a holler when I'm that way, but at the moment, no such luck, even though airfares and exchange rate is more favourable than in the past.

I am spending all my hard earned $$$ on renovations, so that'll keep me in Australia for another few years ! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

…but the photos are beautiful. Many thanks.

A light bulb finally came on. Woody…you were discussing “prototypes” and I responded. Since I deleted it, will try to capture some of the same verbiage.

Ok…Peter and I took a short tour of the manufacturing plant in RI last year. Security was tight in some sections; not very secure in others.

I have many doubts about Prototypes since seeing the development of an actual solid. A true Prototype is comprised of 2 or more pieces…at times you can find a solid that resembles another by the base because they use pieces of each prototype for other solids. Plus, all solids are made of Pewter (this is why they are so heavy for their tiny size). They begin with a block of Pewter and cut/mold/plate it from there.

True Prototype “pieces” are locked in a vault. NO ONE, supposedly, can get them. If someone does, they are subject to dismissal at the very least. They could also have charges filed against them for theft.

So I guess what I'm saying is….just because there's a silver, unfinished solid shape on the Bay or anywhere does not make it a Prototype. Only a reject, an unfinished piece someone slipped into their pocket/purse, or perhaps a stolen piece.

Perfect example…the Colliseum. There is NO prototype. Only a mold. They just pour liquid pewter into the mold and when it sets up (dries), it can then be plated. Probably the easiest type of solid to make…no tons of enameling…just tuck a few crystals here and there and one has a Solid. Plus, the mold is a “Tray” holding dozens of Colliseum “shapes.” There is no one piece that meets the definition of a Prototype.

Please…feel free to contradict me if I'm wrong. I can handle it…NOT! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Just hate to see members getting ripped off thinking they're buying Prototypes when in fact they're just what I've described above.

Must go check on my baby birds…have a great day!

    Hello Everyone,

I attended the unveiling of the Neiman Marcus Solid Perfumes and Compacts Wednesday evening at the NM Store in Newport Beach, CA. They served campagne and some finger food.

I really like the horse and sleigh. It is two pieces. My second favorite was the Leaning Tower. You will appreciate that piece if you have visited Italy.

The jute box and bear on package were very small and I personally did not like them.

The powder compacts were very nice.

They said the collection will be available around August 2nd.

Has anyone else seen the Neiman Marcus collection?

<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> thanks for the info on them Ione – it's good to hear from someone who's seen them first hand too ! Helps when buying from the internet by picture only . . . so you don't get a big shock at the size when you receive them!
