To our dearest Lisa and all the members of this wonderful website (and Estee Lauder, I hope you are listening)

I think is now time to stop thinking of something I canít seem to stop thinking about and put it out there.

I, myself, and I am confident there are soooo many more like me, who love this website. I often visit it; looking, admiring, and learning about all those wonderful perfume compacts. My favorite obsession (as I had mentioned once before) began with my mother giving me my White Linen frog (the same one I was so jealous of my sister getting). For several years after that I gave these, at Christmastime to my mother and my sisters (5-7 each year) until they become too expensive to continue the tradition. I had to stop buying them for everyone else, but would still put one, or two, in my Christmas stocking or under the tree. A couple of years ago I was letting it rest, when I found your website and E-Bay. Before then I would only see these perfume collections at Neiman Marcus and Nordstromís.

Since Iíve discovered your website, my personal collection has grown from 5 treasures to probably at least 50 (too many to even start counting). The reason my collection has grown sooo much is because I get so excited about the news:collections coming out, collections of older compacts, and, perhaps more importantly, collections of contacts (need to know how/where to find them). My packages arriving from Harrods, Nevada, the East Coast, and Florida have been exciting, wonderful and favorite additions. And, my mother loves to hear from me (I am constantly calling to tell her about the new compacts, and ask her what color, shape, and smell she dreams about (we have had wonderfully fun conversations over these).

OK ñ so here it is: My New Yearís wish — Along with all the other wishes for peace, health, happiness, and well being for everyone in the world, I wish that Estee Lauder would realize just how much their sales benefit from your site and everyoneís comments. I wish that Estee Lauder would consider, as a token of their appreciation, producing and releasing a perfume compact dedicated to your website; a compact designed by both Jay Strongwater (he seems to be everyoneís favorite), and Lisa; a compact that would only be sold only by this website; a compact that would be exclusive and limited to the members/visitors of this website. And, in addition to having an extraordinary exclusive limited perfume compact, I wish that Lisa would financially benefit from the proceeds of itís sales (she should get these at wholesale and sell them just below retail ñ as we all love a good deal). I wish Lisa would benefit from the proceeds as a token of all our appreciation for her involvement in producing and maintaining this website. I wish that I could be one of the first lucky ones to buy such a compact.

I believe that such an exclusive compact would be beneficial to Estee Lauder and all the members/visitors of your website.

So, now you have it, my New Yearís wish.

I wish to thank you all

That's really sweet, Janetta!! Sounds like a good deal for EL to use this site as a springboard to encourage people around the world to fall in love with their products by discussing them with others . . . . and of course to 'repay' the site owners for their hard work and vehicle for this!! In this way, your wish is also my wish!! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

    Good on ya!!

Those are great wishes!!!! And the best post we have had here for a very long time.

The marketing dept. has decided they want to cater to the younger folks and kinda of forget about all of us “older” loyal folks I really don't see that happening.

IMHO EL is making a big mistake . The younger may have more disposable income right now but they are fickle in their buying and not near as loyal to a product as us older ones. And the younger are more internet wise and will buy online.

What will happen after this years dismal sales of solids is anyones guess but it looks bleak for the future sales of solids if they continue to repeat the same mistakes of the last couple of years.

Hopefully they will listen to us collectors and bring back the LIMITED, QUALITY,SPECIAL, REASONABLE PRICED solids of old and save this hobby from going down the tubes.

    I concur 100%, especially if what they bring back is the Carousel… <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

    But I've paid good money for that one!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

    What about a few more 2001 and 2004 Harrods bears then? <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

    Sandra – Hate to break the news but…it's the same bear each year…they just change his outfit. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Take your 2003 bear and slip some jammies on him…he's a 2004 bear. Or wrap him up in a green hoody jacket…he's the 2001 bear…want me to go on? <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> Although I must admit…each year, his new outfit is adorable. <img src='style_emoticons//wub.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wub.gif’ />

    <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> You mean . . . . it's the same bear that goes around and around each year with different clothes on?! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

OK – I'll buy for of the same if you don't mind sending the different little suits out to me . . . . we don't wear jammies over here! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> (OK – we do, but not thick top to bottom ones with a hat like he's got!). Also, we don't seem to have a call for that lovely green hooded jacket . . . . . nor the big fat cream jumper or the little red riding hood jacket . . . . gee . . . . it'd be interesting (and hilarious) buying a nude one and dressing him up each year!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

I wonder if our 'Goldfinger' has an 'unfinished' bear (otherwise Mint, of course!)

    Janetta,

Wow, I have been trying to think of something really great to say but words cannot describe how touched I was by your post.

I think it would be really great to have a special solid compact for our members but unfortunately I don't think EL would do that.

I don't have any interest on making money from the site, my only wish is that more members participate.

Again, Janetta, thank you so much for your kind thoughts and wishes they do mean a lot to me.

I have been very vocal regarding the fact that Estee should support this site…without it, I absolutely do not believe that Estee solids would be as popular – or well known – as they are today. Any collectible needs an organization to keep it going. Most clubs require dues, etc. and are not even close to bringing the kind of collector experience that this site does. Lisa can tell you that I have asked many times why she and Jack keep putting all the energy into the site when their rewards are so small. Many people would have walked away a long time ago……and I, along with all the other Solidperfume members, thank them for all that they do.

I do not think that it is financially viable for Estee to make a special solid just for us. I can respect that, but it would take so little from them to retain our respect, and more importantly, our dollars.

    Hi Janetta –

Thanks for posting such lovely sentiments. I didn't feel it was my place to comment so I left that up to the appropriate person, who did an excellent job of communicating her feelings. Thank you, Lisa. Your reply was very nice…very well put. But then again, having just one Very Special Compact for members only is one terrific idea! <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

Sandra – If anyone has a bear that needs an outfit, it would be goldfinger…we'll just have to keep a sharp eye on eBay. That way we can create our own little suits for the cutie (the bear.) Also save mega $/£ on cost! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

Both idea's (the Very Special Compact) and creating Harrod's Bear outfits are worth thinking about! <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

    ooops…Woody….your post and mine crossed paths…as usual, you're right. But it's still nice to think about. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

    Dear Lisa and Jack,
Reading the forum has become part of my daily routine.

There was once when I logged on but your site was down, I was horrified. I thought that was the end of my world. I was so sad and worried. Please do not try this on us anymore, you might get some of us Heart Attack..

    A BIG THANK YOU for giving me such a wondreful site. <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ />

Wow, I haven't been around much lately as I have been extremely busy on another project. Lisa told me I just had to read this post, and she was right. Thanks for such a nice post, it really made us both feel good.

I wish I had the time to do everything on the site that Lisa has on my “to do” list. There are so many great ideas on there and so little time.

While I know Lisa would LOVE designing a solid, ESPECIALLY for EL and ESPECIALLY with Jay … we both know that's just one of those things like winning the lottery. Fun to think about, but wildly unlikely.

Lisa collects because she loves the solids, and she does the site because she wants to bring together other people who feel the same way. You post proves she has done that!

I have been trying to absorb all that has been written and I know I will be leaving out some of the points for the moment as there are so many.

Firstly and most important, without this site I never would have discovered the WORLD OF SOLIDS. (I could go on……..) Thank You Lisa and Jack.

Secondly, as I have stated in earlier posts, one of my sisters and her husband (now deceased) used to collect SWAROVSKI. They belonged to a Collectors' Club and SWAROVSKI brought out special items for only their members to purchase. So this negates the point that it would not be possible for Estee Lauder to do this.

Thirdly, a Member to me, is one who you know! Not someone who is Stateless, Nameless and ANONYMOUS! So my New Year's Resolution is from hereonafter, not to converse with people who are Aliens floating in space!

4thly, to bring back solids which have already been released in the past I do not agree with at all! So anyone who has missed out, will have to be prepared for that item to be sold in the future at a higher price. I agree wholeheartedly, that if EL keep on flooding the market by over producing, we will stop buying. I can go to Woolworths for cheap repros of mass produced items!

As for the Limited pieces! Great! And if we miss out on purchasing, well we will have to hunt for the item and pay more. As well as appreciating the quality of the item and enjoying it to the full, the extras are what Collecting is all about (as Michele would say IMHO)!

Humility is a great thing…I have tons of it! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> And I must concur with you regarding the “unspecified” locations. At the very least, could members at least put in what country they're from? It's not like I'm going to pop in on you for a cup of coffee or anything…it just gives one a secure feeling to know where the “L” you come from! <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> Of course, that's just MHO! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

Love the responses ñ and I will start clicking on the button to ìadd a replyî. And, thanks to some of the comments, figured out how to update my profile. One day I will figure out how to add a picture — <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

It seems to me that some of the compacts are being limited to a quantity of about 300-400, and it seems to me that an exclusive compact, limited to a small quantity (maybe 150?), would be scooped up in no time at all by the members of this site (isnít the membership beyond 400? And wouldnít some of us want buy more than one (as gifts or to just add to our collections)?

I have had so much fun collecting my compacts, and have so many warm fuzzy memories associated with them, that I would hate to see Estee Lauder sales diminish.

And Michele – I would love it if you would pop in for a cup of coffee – I have the Arabian Mocha-Sanani on right now, lemon bars, and a day off work.

With warm heartfelt appreciation to all of you —

    Janetta
