Made In China Or The U.s.a.?

Hi Everyone

I have just noticed on my Las Vegas Lucky Suits crystal powder compact that it says 'Made in U.S.A.' on the white box, gold box and on the compact label but beneath the mirror it is stamped 'China'. Can anyone confirm that to be correct or do I have a fake compact? If indeed the compact is made for Estee Lauder in China then 'Made in U.S.A.' is very misleading!

I would love your advice/input on this please!

My Lucky Suits powder has China inside just above the hinge and so does my Fantasy of light. I have always wondered if the metal cases are “made in China” but finished in the USA…… <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> someone must know

I know that the cases are finished in the USA, that is the powder inserts and brushes are put inside. A friend of mine went for a job interiew with Estee Lauder in southeastern PA and got that insight for me. In fact, they hire senior citizens to do the work, he actually saw them doing it in a plant. I'm going to imagine the cases are made overseas as it would be so much cheaper. Margaret, THANK YOU so much for your update on the convention. I am so glad your trip was a success. Thank you so much for all the information coming through re MitziMay's questions.

I have always been puzzled why the Keepsake Boxes were made in Japan and put that down to the fact that the workmanship is really beautiful and the boxes themselves exquisitely crafted.

As far as China is concerned, this must be due to the low costs involved in producing the items. Japan however is a different story.

Thank you for your reply. I am soooo pleased that you too have the word 'China' stamped on your compact. I wonder if eventually the Estee Lauder compact production and finishing line will follow the lead of companies such as Burberry, and shift their manufacturing to China? Time will tell!

Thank you for your reply. It's strange how the word 'China' is only stamped to my knowledge on one or two different powder compacts, I agree that it makes sense costwise for Estee Lauder to produce the compact overseas but if that is the case I feel it should be made clearer where the compacts are actually made <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />
I love the fact that Estee lauder hire senior citizens. Am I giving my age away????

I bought my Fantasy of Light Powder in 2004 and the Red and Black Lucky Suits In 2005, both are the same square cases with different decoration on…Has anybody got a round crystal powder with China stamped in it ??????????….. <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ />

I just looked at several round powder compacts, and they all have China stamped into the base underneath the refill.

Some of these go back to 1998, so I think the compact shells have been made there for awhile.

You would not believe all the Sr citizens working in Southeastern PA. In fact there was an article in the newspaper that there is a shortage of jobs for high school students. I think alot are doing it to supplement their incomes, and employers are finding they are a much more dependable lot than teenagers. Do you girls across the pond find Sr citizens working there as well?

Well done to you for looking under the powder well. All my powders have been bought MIB and of course came with the powder in and I have never taken any out to look underneath.

Now I wonder….. <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ /> …….. Is the whole compact finished in China including putting on the crystals and then sent over to the USA for filling with powder.

A lot of our seniors work. Some people retire, depending on what sort of pensions they have and some carry on……its more or less your choice.

My Hubby retired last year ( he's 65 ) The company he worked for begged him to stay on….first it was stay for three days, then stay for two per week and the day before he retired they asked him would he consider staying for just one day per week. He did turn all offers down. He loved his job but knew they would ask him to do more and more hours if he stayed.

Its true that a lot of companies like older people to work for them, we are just so reliable. Where I work most of us are well past retirement age and have been together for a good number of years…..Younger people have come and GONE…… <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> and the oldies carry on….. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

I work for federal Express and our company finds that as well Margaret. I'm a little bit younger than you and your hubby ( 53 ) but at the station where I work, all the old-timers are the die-hards. I have 20 yrs in and average 3 nights of OT a week ( I have to pay for those solids somehow! )Same with 3 other men that I work with. One of the guys John, is too much. I'm working a PM route and it's 5:30 at night and I wave to him as he is still delivering pkgs. I do deliveries and pick-ups, but he wants no part of the PM pick-up cycle. I tell him he is hard core and they broke the mold when they made him. My family says I will still be delivering pkgs from a walker they are probably right!!!

I don't know if they are fully assembled in China.

The pricing on the compacts is fairly high, which makes me want to think the crystal application/finishing is done in the US.

Seems to me if it was fully manufactured in China, the final pricing would be less expensive.

However, I'm the new kid on the block here, so maybe someone else would have a better understanding of the process.

Thanks Lisa for the i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g information! I know this has already been said but really considering the retail cost of the compacts you would not have expected the compact shells to be made in China. I appreciate that there is a lot of detailed work in the finishing but enough to warrant such high prices? Maybe? <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />
