    Hi Linda…. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

    Oh Dear, now how will I explain this one….. <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

Over here its a saying that is used when you have been waiting a long time for something.

You wait and wait and then you get a lot all at once.

Jacky can you help me with this, you explain things better than I do…… <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

    Hi Linda and Margaret…

Nice to see you here Linda…..long time no 'hear'!

Had to laugh re the buses! Another English expression meaning you can wait for something and it doesn't come along……..then suddenly one does come along and three others etc., appearn at the same time. Another expression, ''It never rains but it pours!'' which means, I can be searching for a solid and never see it on Ebay. Suddenly I see one come up on Ebay and then, a few more of the same solid..all at the same time!

    Hope this helps!

Happy New Year to you all! xx from a freezing London!

    Jacky and Margaret,
I got it right away. It's true here too… the buses run in packs, especially the airport parking shuttles!

<img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> Very funny, Margaret – Sydney public transport must be like London's !! Though it does depend what time of day. Morning transport though is more reliable and they seem to run more on time.

Obviously it is a lot better in other countries (though I guess it depends on the population of the city).

Something about our ancestors I think, given that this Aussie knows that expression well – and its so true in Sydney. The number of times I've waited half an hour for a bus only for 3 to turn up within minutes of each other!! Especially applies near the casino in Pyrmont!! Sometimes you just have to wait and wait cause its so cold to cross the footbridge with the wind coming off the harbour in Winter. At least Sydney's trains run on time – but in peak times they are now packed to the doors and spilling out… <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

    No problem with the bus system where I live…..but the trains are another matter!!!!!!!!!….. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

One winter they did not run because of leaves on the line, they sorted the problem out and then the next winter the same problem again only this time they said that there was the wrong type of leaves on the line….. <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> …now can you beat that.

Leaves on a train line? Don't tell the Sydney politicians about this, they'll use it everyday – they're constantly trying to come up with some excuse for our appalling train system at the same time they are increasing the fares!! At last news story they told us to get used to it – the crowding will be with us for a long time since new carriages aren't expected until at least the end of 2010. That's on top of cutting proposed plans for new train lines and stations in a city that's getting bigger and bigger. I can't believe the difference in the number of people on the trains now compared to the same time trains a decade ago, sometimes its difficult to breath for the number of people pressing to get in the door. That said, our city is one of – if not the most – beautiful in the world and I can highly recommend visiting to everyone who hasn't already done so and those who've already had the pleasure should come back, we are a very friendly mob!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

<img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> People in the northern hemisphere may be imagining a different cold and may find it hard to believe some parts of Australia would get 'cold', as really it rarely hits freezing here. It's only gets down to about 10degC, but in Sydney, that IS freezing cold !! Yes, we're soft, but we don't need air conditioning until it gets above 30degC !

Some winter days can be like summer days and vice versa here. One week you're melting and one day you need to be eating soup to get you going. However, it's only a matter of 10degC this way or that.

Ah, you gotta live here to understand it . . . we just don't let that on to the unsuspecting tourists !! heh heh ! <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ />

    <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> Hey Lyndell !! Someone put on free buses doing the city circuit !!

Have you tried them? They are green (for being environmentally friendly) and go every 10 minutes during the day only. I think they're a good idea, but would like to see them REPLACE the transport in the city instead of add to the traffic.

We have a new train line built near us, but no trains on it as the next government scrapped it. What a waste of money !!

Free buses??!! As Rove would say… “What the?!” No I haven't tried them. Where do they go from? Anywhere near Town Hall? I haven't been into the city in a while…only as close as Rosebery and Kensington so I haven't even seen them. What a great idea! I would sooner see the light rail system or a new tram system though. My Grandfather worked on the trams and said they would have to bring them back. I think they should lower not just the traffic but the people too.

I can't believe how in just 10 years the city has become so crowded. I just don't understand why we don't stop anymore growth and make people go out west where there is more room. Twenty years ago noone lived in the city!! Now people only want to live within 12km of it!! Makes my 1.5 hour trip each way look huge. I'm one of those who got 40 degrees followed by 22 degrees the next day, last Monday – but weren't we so glad of the drop in temperature! <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ /> Just wish the hot weather had been kinder to the Victorians. My heart sinks to see the loss of so many people's lives.

As for train lines – ours got cancelled before it got built but now we're getting brochures on the building, even though noone thinks its going ahead! The biggest waste of money has been a bicycle track for miles around the M5 and out to the M7 – I never see anyone use it. The part near us is a death trap that cost multi-millions. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />
