I've been wonderig for sometime now who are the “guests” listed in the Chat Area if everyone has to log in? Just curious. Petals

Funny you should ask that question Martha. I have been thinking the same thing but am sure it was explained to me previously. A guest can look at the board but not get into our discussion group????

Wow – we're all 3 on the same wave length. I've been wondering about that for weeks…even tried to log in as a “guest” but the system wouldn't let me. However, I often see – down at the bottom – that there are perhaps 3 Members and 1 “Guest” present.

What is that about and where do they come from? How do they enter? Pray-tell? Helloooooo….Jack…….

As a none member or guest you cannot get into the chat area of our site or pull up any private information about any of us, because you have not logged in. what you can do is get into for sale or my collection ect……

The “guest” thing still doesn't make sense, as I do see it at the bottom of the board from time to time…will have to wait for clarification…maybe there's a 'back door' we don't know about??? <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />

Nope, there's no back door. The “guests” you see are just people coming to the board and finding that they have to log in. They don't see anything but the “You must log in” page, but the script still records their visit.

Once they log in, they will appear under their registered name. (Unless, of course, they log in and choose to remain invisible.)

The only “person” who can get in to see everything without actually logging in is everyone's friend: The GoogleBot!

PLEASE WILL YOU TELL ME WHY IF I DONT LOG IN I CAN STILL GET INTO THE OTHER AREAS OF THE SITE, BUT NOT THE CHAT AREA. Margaret-

The only part of the site currently restricted is the message board. Anyone can view the rest of the site without having to log in. We may change this soon and make the whole site available to only those who log in, but we're not sure yet.

Any opinions?

Well, my opinion:

Only visibile to non-registered persons should be the areas
MY COLLECTION (if Lisa agree)
MISC PHOTOS
UPCOMING EVENTS
FOR SALE
RELATED LINKS
THE DESIGNERS
STORE LOCATIONS

Everything else should be accessible for members only. Especially the pictures (database, and members photos) should be kept hidden until members log in … it's too easy to copy the pics, and I think it's technically not possible to copy-protect them.

Any other opinions ?

I reckon 'guests' should also be able to view the chat area front page only. Just the topic titles, but not the posts.
