Hi all –

I was wondering if anyone is coming to the IPBA Convention here in Jacksonville, FL May 2-6th. I know I will get to meet Lisa there. I was wondering if any other solid perfume collectors will be there. Has anyone been to past conventions? Where there solids there for sale/view? I am nervous that it will be mostly geared for bottle collectors. I'm hoping to meet some of my fellow solid perfume collectors, so let me know I'm not going to be alone. Ann & Ken I hope you are coming and bringing a small bag of extra goodies. I know the IPBA is discouraging room sales this year. I'm wondering if the regular sales include solids?

Hi Jen….. 🙂 I went to the IPBA last year and did pick up a couple of solids but a lot does tend to be bottles, my advice to you is to ask around if anybody has any for sale. Do a web search for Antique Malls in the area, you never know what turns up, I even found one in a garage sale when I was over there.

You will have a really good time….I did and the only reason I am not going this year is that we are going into Spain and then we have our American friends to stay for a couple of weeks.

The Auction is to die for ( I sat through the whole thing )

Thank you Margaret. I am hoping that their will be some solids for sale for reasonable prices. I have a friend in the miniperfumes group who is getting the auction catalog and told me she'd let me know if there are any solids that will be up for bid. If nothing else, I am looking forward to meeting some fellow perfume lovers.

I would go if I knew it was worth it. I hate driving to Jax, there isn't a good direct route via interstate from Tampa.

I haven't been to a IPBA show in years… I doubt I will be able to attend this year due to ongoing medical issues. <_<

If anyone goes… PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE US UPDATES WITH PHOTOS!

Margaret- which solid did you find at a yard sale… I have yet to come across one like that… I think I would be soooo super excited, even if it was a rope compact! 😛

Yes Lisa it was so funny solids were the last thing on my mind when we went to the Garage Sales. I found the Contented Cat, empty but in otherwise in good condition and paid $5 for it, did give it away when we got home to a good friend of mine who loves cats.

Never in my life have I got in and out of a car so many times as I did on that day, it was a wonderful experience and the stuff for sale was amazing. One that stood out was a beautiful (think) pig skin suitcase from the 1930's/40's

all fitted out inside with compartments for stationary and in more or less mint condition for $10…I wish I could have got it home to England.

My Husband got the best bargin…..a dozen old Dinkey cars for a dollar each, our suitcases were just about on the limit coming home and U.S. customs opened them…..think to look at all the perfume bottles and powder compacts that I had but they let us bring them all home with no problem.

OH THE JOYS OF TRAVEL…… 😆

Margaret, you seem to come across the cats. Now own up! What about the Ivory Series (you will kill me)!

Hope you all enjoy the IPBA. Wish I could join too! Meanwhile we have our Meeting of the IPBA UK Chapter on Saturday 14th April, or is it 13th (no diary to check dates right now) so anyone in the U.K. wanting to come, it is a really fun packed and enjoyable day. I would hate to miss it…..Lunch in the garden if weather permits and you would definitely find lots to buy as we take items with us…

I did go to the Convention in Florida (went for a day). Cannot remember the date. It was the first time and everyone was there including Woody, Lisa and Jack, Angela, Ann and husband etc. There was so much to buy which included solids etc. So Jenn, have a wonderful time.

Yes I will own up to being the person who saw more or less the full ivory series dirt cheap in an Antique Mall….AND LEFT THEM THERE…. 😮

I don't care for them but I did go back for them a couple of days later and of course they had gone…Don't know where my brain was that day, all I took in was that flea bitten cat which I hate and then when I thought about it all the rest were there as well.

Jacky has never forgiven me…. 😮

Boy I need to shop with you. Those flea bitten cats and any solids would be toted promptly home by me. I think I would faint if I ever found any ivory's or frankly any EL's here.

Only once have I found one at an antique store and it was a golden shell in rough shape with a loose hinge and part used. But I was so happy just to have found one that I bought it for the whole $5!

I'm sorry to hear that no one from this group sounds like they are going to the IPBA Convention.

Is there a compact convention this year? Anyone attending that one?

Hi Jennifer

Good to hear you will be coming to the IPBA. I have attended most of them the past 10 years. I always have a great time and never fail to find some solids I aboslutely must have! In fact a lot of my best ones were purchased at either the collectors market, showroom or room sales. The room sales will most likely continue but not sanctined by the club for obvious liabilty reasons. There will be no posting board for room nos. at the registration desk but room sellers will be giving you a card with their room number. I will be selling some solids at the collectors market and from the room if my roomate doesn't object. Please look me up when you get there, would love to meet you. Last year in Chicago I met Margret and husband but not until the last day.

I still go to antique stores/shows, flea markets and garage sales. And every now and then I find something good. It's a lot harder now to find something that I don't have. But even if I have it and it's a good deal I buy to resell just because it's fun selling at the convention and I know some other collector might enjoy it.

The last time we went to Vegas was about our 7th trip and we said then it would be our last one. I love the place so much and just to mention the name always gives me a thrill, it feels as if has always been a part of my life.

The trouble is there are so many places in Europe that we have not seen yet ( this year we are going to Prague and Dubrovnik ) and the flights are so much shorter.

But who knows what next year will bring, I may well get that Vegas yearning…. 😆

Yes its to far for me, even with a stop over I don't think my body could sit on a plane for that long.

We do have friends who go out for three months every year to escape our winter and they are always asking us to go out and stay with them for a few weeks.
