PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN OPENING ANY MAIL FROM EBAY!

I RECEIVED A COMMUNICATION WHICH I OPENED AND I THINK THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED THIS EVENING. IF YOU RECEIVE ANYTHING ABOUT POWER SELLING ETC. JUST DELETE IT! THIS COULD HAVE BEEN THEIR WAY IN TO MY ACCOUNT AND DETAILS!

IT TRANSPIRED THAT MY IDENTITY HAD BEEN STOLEN AND CARS HAD BEEN LISTED FOR SALE IN MY NAME! THE PEOPLE INVOLVED HAD ALSO CHANGED MY EBAY MAILING ADDRESS SO THAT ANYTHING SENT TO ME WOULD BE DIRECTED TO THEM!

FORTUNATELY ALL THIS HAS BEEN CAUGHT IN TIME BUT THE TIME INVOLVED IN SORTING OUT NEW PASSWORDS AND CHECKING EVERYTHING, HAS BEEN EXHAUSTING! AS THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE WILL KNOW, IT IS VERY STRESSFUL, WORRYING AND TIME CONSUMING…..

I HAVE NOW ADDED THE EBAY TOOLBAR WHICH HELPS ADVISE YOU WHEN YOU RECEIVE FRAUDULENT EMAILS!

Thanks Sandra. It really was an alarming experience, to say the least! Had I not been using the computer for a while, I would never have seen what was happening!

I have added the Ebay Toolbar which I hope you and other members do too!

    Jacqueline,
You have our sympathy as we went through much the same experience, as Sandra knows.

The best advice we can give is to never reply to emails from ebay or paypal that ask for any kind of information. We never click on links in these emails either. Ebay or paypal will NEVER ask for personal info in an email.

If you do receive one of these phishing emails just forward them immediately to
spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com and you will receive confirmation quickly if they were or were not legit.

We also change our passwords at least once a month and use passwords that cannot be guessed, consisting of things that we can remember such as our Dads' middle name combined with our middle daughters' favorite toy, etc. , with one capital letter and a number or symbol thrown in randomly.

    It's kind of a hassle to do this but better a small hassle than a stolen identity. <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />

Thanks Don and Margaret. Really appreciate your support.

I have now added the Ebay Toolbar, so hopefully this little episode is over.. What with the Second Chance option (spoof) and this, I hope my quota for the year is over and done with!

I've been averaging 1-2 paypal emails a day – all fakes, telling me another user has been added to my account (not true). All have been reported to spoof@paypal. But let me tell you, they look real to anyone who's not savvy about this stuff.
