Brigette, what a beautiful photo. I don't think we here “down under” know what we're missing. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
I would much rather be colder than hot. Think of all those wonderful ways to get warm. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />I hope it's a little warmer when I am in Tuscany in November. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Dante
Mimi, we New Yorker's are just used to snow which makes us appreciate the spring and summer! I have to admit, this is one of the worse winters I have seen in a long time but February is almost here!
Martha, you crack me up with the vision of you sliding down your driveway and then falling down spread eagle with a Dog looking at you, ha, ha ha! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Nancy, what is a Brolly? It that an Umbrella? <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />
Brigitte, I love your Picture, you even caught the Snow Flakes!
Dante, yes, I would rather be cold also because it's a great feeling to sit next to a fireplace……. <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />
Sandra: this picture is for you!!
Taken from my house of my backyard, there is a Cottage and the stairs lead up to a Frozen In-ground Pool…..
Denise
YIKES, Denise!! Those icicles look dangerous!!
That looks mighty cold!! Brrrr!! How deep is that white stuff??
Do you skate on your pool??
I'll have to find out how to post a picture of my backyard so you can see the contrast!! (Jack- help!)
Log fires sound romantic, but pneumonia doesn't. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Martha! I hope you are O. K after your “slide”. I'll bet darling little Charlie did have a funny look. He is just so cute. I love the picture that you posted of the two of you!! Really makes me miss my Cocker Spaniel, Breck.
Hope you are warmer today………Go Panthers!
Mimi <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Brigitte: Great photo of your villa (is that the right word?) in Tuscany. I'm intrigued by those two large round objects behind the snow fence. Are they haystacks?
Denise: I haven't seen icicles like those since I lived in Michigan … brought back old memories … brrrrr!!! <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> Love the little birdhouse. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
Mimi: Thank you! Charlie and I are doing fine. And I'm being very, very, careful … no more acrobatics this winter! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Sandra,
The Icicles will melt in time (will that time ever come?)…. they look pretty when the sunlight shine on them, reminds me of Crystal!
That “White Stuff” is 15 inches deep, I don't dare go back there unless I had a Stagecoach. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />
Wish I could skate on top of my pool, haven't skated in years, but it has been “winterized” (chemicals were put in and it has a nice tight cover).
Martha,
<img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> Sorry to bring back frigid memories, must be nice in the Carolina's (I always wanted to visit there). When the cold spell is over, the birds make very good use of that Birdhouse, they also make nests in that Cherry Blossom Tree. On that thought, I must buy a new Bird Feeder for the Spring!
Martha, I am glad you are okay, I almost fell down a couple of hours ago on my driveway, wheeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />
Denise
Hi Denise, yes you got it right about the brolly. Were you in Florida for last years IPBA? Were you there with your sister? I think I sat next to you at the lunch.
I loved your photograph. What a fantastic sight. Of course It's OK for us to say that, we don't have to live with it.
Jacky, didn't think my last post went as something happened to my computer, due to an incoming phone call. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />
Pamela, I'll wear a hat tomorrow and pretend I'm at your wedding. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
We are having rain today but the forecast for the week-end is 2 inches of snow. I feel a fraud! We are supposed to have it cold. Trouble is we also get it damp too which is what I hate. Dry cold is one thing but the damp cold gets into your very bones.Nancy
Hi Nancy,
Wow, I guessed what a Brolly is, how about that? Next time I have to use my Umbrella, I will tell everyone I am using a Brolly, hardy, ha, ha! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Glad you don't have to live with the Ice, in fact I am leaving in a little while to venture out…. <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />
Wish I was in Florida last year, I was in Florida 4 years ago and that's a really funny story by itself. I was leaving my hotel to go to the Beach and I was blocked by a bunch of Wires and Cameras. I didn't know what was going on so I politely said “Excuse me, is there a way out of here, I would like to cross the Street”.
These men pointed to some cable wires and told me to walk around which I did, only to find myself being filmed in a Movie! Another man was giving me instructions when to walk as he thought I was an Extra in a Movie they were filming. I was so surprised, but I thought it was funny, so instead of going to the beach, I followed the Director's instructions and walked back and forth for 6 hours.
I found out the name of the movie was called “Holy Man” with Eddie Murphy and Jeff Goldblum but I didn't end up being in it, I guess I ended up on the cutting room floor. I did talk to Eddie Murphy who was really nice, Jeff wasn't that friendly. I met so many interesting people and had a great time!
Nancy, aren't you sorry you asked? <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Denise
Thanks to all your nice words, but the pic was taken by my husband who is in Italy right now. I'm in Switzerland and we have quite a bit of snow too here in town.
The fence is an electric sheep fence for our big Leonberger, as when there are females in heat he digges himself under the normal fence and off he is.The house is an old farm house, not a villa.
Dante, if you like warm or even hot temperatures Tuscany in November might even be a little too cold for you. I consider September or October.
Martha, these are 2 trees, but don't ask me their name in English. The one to the left is a tree with falling down branches and he carries blackberries. the one to the right is a sort of palmtree, I guess he will die now.
Denise I love the icikles very much…they just look great.
Have a great weekend
Brigitte
Stalactites and stalagmites! Never thought I would be looking at those on this site! Amazing photographs! I took my three little bears to Regent's Park, but the pix were not too good. Might send one to Lisa and Jack, if I have the courage. Anyway, it shows the snow! Another lesson for Sandra in the White Stuff! Don't want you to get confused Sandra! <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />
Nancy, your computer sounds out of this world! It takes PHONE CALLS TOO!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Only joking. Will get stuck into your 'links' later…………
Sorry, it's raining here today! No antiquing! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />
Gosh Denise, that must have made your holiday. What a story to tell. I believe you get the Antique Roadshow over there but wonder if you get Bargain Hunt yet? I keep bumping into them filming while I'm at antique fairs and try my hardest to avoid them! A friend and I are convinced if you are well dressed at these things they bump up the prices and if you dress down they keep the prices down. I dont know if that is true because Ive seen dealers who look as though they don't have two ha'pennies to rub together spend thousands at auctions! <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />
What are you knitting by the way?Nancy
Hello Nancy, that is exactly what I have been told. Always dress down <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> So whenever I see those cameras, I'm outta there! I mean to say, I don't want to be caught dressing down on camera do I! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Meanwhile I am wondering if that applies to the American market too! If you look too smart, the prices go up? Nancy, how about Steptoe and Son? You can explain if anyone asks!
Denise, you should have been paid for that, even though your footage wasn't used later! All that work and they pay big money here for extras!
Nancy, maybe that is also why we duck the cameras. I mean if they aren't going to give us the due rate, why bother!!!!
Have a good week-end, even though it's raining and grey!
Hi Nancy,
Yes, it was really alot of fun as I never saw a movie being filmed before nor have I ever met any movie stars, so I was really excited about the whole thing! <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
I have only seen the Antiques Roadshow on Television, and when I bargain hunt, I go to Antique Stores, Garage Sales, and people's homes when they are moving and selling most of their possessions. I also dress down because I don't want them to think I have much money. I try to act really stupid (sometimes that's not hard to do! <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ /> ), so I can get good deals.
Knitting has become my new passion besides collecting Solids (wow, buying Yarn can get expensive! <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> ). All my life I crocheted, and about 2 years ago my Mom knit a beautiful Sweater and she taught me how to knit. I have knitted 2 Winter Sweaters, a Baby Blanket for my neighbor, and lots of Hats and Scarves for the homeless and poor people that I feel so sorry for. I manage to fit in time to do volunteer work, I help out on Thanksgiving or Christmas to feed the people that walk in. Then there are plenty of Disabled and Elderly people that can't shop for food, so I help out with that too.
Right now I am almost done knitting a pretty Pink Sweater for myself and I am knitting a Throw for my Couch.
Jacky, the other extra's told me to get paid, but I wasn't a Registered Extra (one has to be registered with an Acting Agency, which I was not), but I didn't care, all the fun was worth it! It was a sheer accident and I enjoyed every minute of it. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
By the way, when is the next IPBA? I have never been as I was very ill with Lymes Disease. I am much better now even though this disease left me with bone damage but I would really like to go! If anyone can give me information about the IPBA, I would truly appreciate it.
Denise
Gosh Denise, Lymes disease can be fatal you must have been very scared.
They do a lot of filming in Glasgow and I watch films to see if I can pinpoint locations. A lot of builidngs they use look really different.
If any of you saw House of Mirth, this was filmed in Glasgow and they used
Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery in lots of it. For instance it was the New York Opera House in one scene. One of the rooms in our City Chambers here was Gillian Anderson's bedroom.
George Clooney is over here just now filming too.
Last year Samuel L Jackson was filming locally and a friend of mine said that if you took vidoeos (of previous films) he was actually autographing them for fans. She said he was a really nice person. She met Ewan MacGregor before and got her photograph taken with him. (She was Ga-Ga for about two weeks after that!)Nancy
Brigitte, I meant to say that I loved your picture too. I have only ever been to Italy in September but in the Abbruzzo area in spring I believe you can ski in the mountains in the morning and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon. How is that for having the best of both worlds! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
(Not that I ski. I'm not very sporty!)Nancy
