Kasi,
I'm so glad that Rita didn't hit like expected. That road trip must've been a nightmare. We could only watch from the Dallas area. What is normally a 4 1/2 hour drive was taking 16+ hours for people to get here. Incredible!
I'm sorry for the losses you suffered, but I'm relieved they weren't worse…not like Katrina. You had a home to go back to and a neighborhood still intact. And your family is safe. That's what really counts. And for that, we are all glad.

Thanks Catherine;
Yeppes we are all safe….But I'm really getting tooooooo old to spend 12 hours in a car. I had a friend who tried to drive to Dallas and it took her 16 hours to get across houston and another 14 hours to Dallas
So my 12 hr little drive wasn't that bad….LOL….NOT
Thanks for your story, Kasi !! Better to be safe than sorry, they say, even though you gave your cars a slow run for 12 hours and then back again!
Good luck in the clean up and aftermath of the Hurricane. Hopefully that will be the last for quite a while! <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ />
Hi everyone.
I came home a few days ago. Haven't had much time to use the internet until now. A lot more is going on than usual.
I'm glad the family is safe. Nobody evacuated or even tried. My in-laws lost power for 4 days. I invited them to stay at my apartment as it was like 100 degrees. One of their trees cracked in half.
I normally leave my car at my parent's house because it's on the way to the airport. This time I had to park at the airport because we were so late. Good/bad news. My car got damaged because some idiot hit my bumper and damaged half of it (still driveable). They didn't leave a number, of course. Houston has tons of bad drivers. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> Anyway, it would have been worse if I left it at my parent's house. An even bigger jerk decided to shoot out car windows! <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> My dad has an ordinary Chevy truck that got badly damaged. Most of the neighbors had the same damage.
Karin, I ran out of internet time and didn't get a chance to see your post. I'll contact you if I go again. I'm always happy to have a shopping buddy. I needed all the help I could get in Stockholm. It is a very nice city. One of the best I've been to — good food — clean. But, I had trouble because everything closes so early. I only had time to do one thing per day (not counting lunch/dinner). My husband and I had trouble getting around in a timely manner. We even woke up early enough.
Jacky, actually I was in London….only in the airport. I had to take a connecting flight to Stockholm and then from Copenhagen. Believe you me I want to stop by longer. London is one of my favorite cities. It feels like home (although I was born and raised in Texas). We could go shopping. Order solids at Harrods in person.
Greyhound,
Too bad you missed out on my post <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> You have to promise me to contact me if you ever come to Stockholm again!! And that goes for the rest of you as well!!!
I have a lot of insider tips to share and I guess no one wants to waste precious time when they visit a foreign city. Perhaps we should have a tab on the site with contacts you can make when you are traveling. I would instantly register as the “Stockholm contact” <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> What do you think Lisa?Good idea, Karin and very nice of you to offer yourself as 'tour guide'! <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
See what genuinely nice people we have here as members around the world! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />Too bad for Greyhound she missed your offer this time around ! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />
Very happy to hear everyone made it through the storm, I know how scary it can be. Sorry about your car Greyhound <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

I love your idea, it's fantastic! Going to fill Jack in on it now but I cannot promise anything he is still so very busy with lots of work. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
Only just read your post Greyhound! How I missed it, beats me! So pleased to hear that it wasn't as bad as you anticipated on your return. Shooting windows out of cars??????!! Didn't someone hear or stop him, or am I being naieve?????
Next time perhaps you will stop over in London? Hope so!
Take care……

I think Karin's idea is a great one. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> We have collectors all over the world, and many of us travel. Personally, I would be thrilled if any of you were in my area and would extend the customary and noted Texas hospitality. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> But, seriously, having a contact in a place we are visiting is such a benefit. They can point out places to visit, restaurants, good shopping areas, parts of town to maybe avoid, etc. And if desired, they can spend a little time together talking and visiting about their collections. Sounds like fun.
Catherine
Yes Catherine, you are right. It is a brilliant idea especially if someone runs
into any trouble and they know they have a contact in that part of the world.
It would help I am sure!<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
