Thought we were too far away from Ivan to be concerned so I never bothered asking you guys for prayers…bad move. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> The police woke me at 7 this morning to inform me that the top half of my huge tree was lying across my neighbor's car. That neighbor being you-know-who. <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />

Soooo, the rain is coming down in buckets, the wind is blowing and the car is being towed to the Chrysler dealership. Meanwhile, there are no tree people who have time to cut up what's now in my yard, thanks to the police and fire department. I have no idea why they came or who called them. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

Must go bandage my hand again…tried to help get the tree off the roof, slipped, grabbed the place where the rear window used to be and got a handful of glass shards stuck in me. Then the nice policeman called an ambulance (not needed at all) and informed me that “there is no such thing as 'safety glass'”. This is going to be just a wonderful day…. <img src='style_emoticons//unsure.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’unsure.gif’ />

I have heard now that the hurricane forecast as Jeanne has now been downgraded. Hopefully that will be the last….

Michele, sorry to hear about your accident. Take care of that hand. We had about 2 days of non-stop rain and lots of flooding. Our yard is strewn with limbs. Part of the Blueridge Parkway near the Linville Gorge is unpassable due to mud slides.

Ann and Ken – glad to hear you didn't get any of the hurricane. I was just watching Fox news where the president is in Alabama. The damage is just horific.

Martha I didn't realize western NC had so much damage. We didn't get much around here. We had a couple of bands of thunderstorms come through but that's all. You should come visit Saks if you get this way. It's a fun place to shop although expensive. They had wonderful Jay Strongwater displays.

Michelle please take care of your hand. Sorry to hear you had tree damage. What a season for hurricanes!

So sorry to hear about your tree and hand! Last year, 2 days after Hurricane Isabel, I was driving on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and a tree fell on a car that was 3 vehicles ahead of me. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> It was like watching slow motion… there's nothing anyone can do. Luckily the driver wasn't hurt. Please take care of yourself!!! Ar

What a horrifying situation! You are so very lucky, not to mention the driver of the car that got hit. Am sure it's a memory that returns from time to time! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

And thank you all for your good wishes…the hand will be fine…the car can be repaired….the tree…well, we'll see what happens. I'd just like it out of the yard at this point. But I must say here that for as upsetting as it was….one tree and one car…I cannot imagine what the people in Florida, Alabama and up the east coast are going through. Both mentally and physically.

One thing that has me more than a little upset…for insurance purposes I have to get 3 estimates (written) to have the tree removed. Now, estimates have always been free (at least here they are.) However, much to my surprise, the estimates now cost anywhere from $300 to $500 each. I do hope that those that have suffered great losses are not being charged outrageous prices just for estimates…these people cannot even find their insurance policies…

To me, this is a case of taking advantage of a bad situation to make money fast, and it's really very sad. If I had a chain saw and a chipper thing, I'd be out there doing it for nothing, just to help get them back on their feet.

Again, thank you to Martha, Phyllis, Jacky, Pat, AR and everyone who wished me well. It was appreciated. You guys are the best!

Haven't been posting but have kept all of you in harm's way in my thoughts and prayers. Glad to hear all is better than expected. Michelle…hang in there. Sounds like some bad people out there trying to take advantage. That happens during the big quakes out here when buildings collapse and must be rebuilt.

My brother in law live in the Caymans…he is now homeless…lost everything to Ivan. he moved all his belongings to a storage area and then headed to the other side of the island. We didn't hear from him for days. When we did the news was that he was alive and homeless.

HI Everyone,
I live in Pace just Northeast of Pensacola. The storm was awful! I don't think I will ride one out in my house again, the sound of the wind was very scary. We are all safe, can't ask for more than that,and my house in good shape compared to all I have seen. We were very fortunate.Still a good bit of damage, the roof leaks, the fence, the screen enclosure is smashed, and a big deductible, I won't be buying any solids for a while, but all of mine are OK. I feel terrible when I whine about my little bit of troubles, Many lost lives and others everything they own. So many homes were just totally destroyed. I wishpeople would evacuate from the dangerous areas like they are told, staying there is not going to protect their house and the results are tragic. Today is day six without power. Tonight we have a generator! Not much gas though don't know when I will be online again. The roads are all torn up and traffic is a disaster. I must venture out in it tomorrow though, we are going to try to work; (the office has power) however don't know who will show up to have their teeth cleaned with so much other stuff going on. Talk to you all again when I the power comes back on! Donna

Donna, reading all of this first hand brings home the reality.
I was watching the name of the place where you live on the Hurricane News but never ever thought of one of our members being there!

It just brings home how fragile this earth really is! Without getting into politics, perhaps more Leaders will respond to the Global Warming issues and realise we have to take more care!

Hope you are still on-line and will be OK.

From this side of the ocean, take care and don't do anything which will put you at risk!
