We are getting ready all day today for the hurricane. Hopefully this storm will shift North and out to sea because I wouldn't wish it on anyone, however it looks like its path so far is right towards us.
I hope everyone in Florida and Georgia and the Carolinas remain safe.
Lisa & Jack –
Having had to “ride out” more than our share of Hurricanes in Stone Harbor (3 blocks wide – to the right is the ocean…to the left is the bay), I can only wish you the best. Hope it turns away and you stay safe… <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />
It's amusing when the forecasters tell you to “get to high ground as quickly as possible.” THERE IS NO HIGH GROUND….you're at SEA LEVEL, for heaven's sake! We've been there when steel patio furniture crashed through the glass doors, and watched the Chrysler 300M float down to the bay, so if they tell you to evacuate, grab the dogs and get out. Everything else can be replaced!
Thinking of you…take care…be safe…stay together….
LET US ALL KNOW THAT YOU ARE SAFE WHEN IT IS OVERTAKE CARE…..MARGARET…..

Margaret I am tracking it here. Looked this morning before going out, and have just been reading the latest news from the States now. I shall send you a copy of the link.
My relatives have the shutters up and I have told them to clear out! They say it is not necessary!
Will be watching on and off all evening. Take care all of you out there!
Having experienced some Typhoons when I lived in Hong Kong I just can't imagine the extra strength of a Hurricane.
Hope you stay safe and there's not too much damage
Caroline
Lisa,
Are ya'll staying? Hope everyone in the path stays safe and has minimal damage. I'll keep my fingers crossed and be thinking of you all!!!
FYI…..Ohio is having really great weather….I don't have many beds…but plenty of floors and sofas if anyone needs a place to stay… <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

Yes, I hope everyone in the path of the hurricane has somewhere safe to go. I have family in Jupiter and they are planning to leave town this afternoon.
I'm with you Lisa, I hope the hurricane steers north and out to sea!!
Jeanette
Lisa and Jack,
I hope that everything will go well, I'm thinking of you.
I live in Italy, should you be nearer I could tell you come here!

Have just watched a little news/weather and cannot believe there are people in Florida buying plywood to board up their houses. The storm is the size of Texas, larger than Hurricane Andrew or Charley, with winds of 145 mph already…and it's going very slow so it's building strength as it crawls along towards the coast. There is no plywood that can hold back the wind…I can handle thunder, lightening, even flooding…but not the wind…not at that velocity. It's terrifying just to hear it.
I do hope either the storm veers off the coastline or, if not, everyone gets out and is safe.
My brother has put the shutters up. They have a cupboard with no windows where they are going to shelter! I have been looking at the map as the hurricane is supposedly landing not too far away. Jupiter is near there Jeanette! Hope we are kept updated. I am ploughing through loads of stuff on the link and it is not explicit enough.
Jack, if you have a better link, can you post here please! Am really worried.
Where is Phyllis located? Anyone heard from her? Jack…hope you're watching and driving at the same time…preferably northwest!
Lisa & Jack and anyone else who maybe in the Hurricanes path, take care. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />
I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through.
My thoughts are with you
DanteWe have the hurricane shutters up and we're holding down the fort. Hopefully we won't get a direct hit. This is the map I have been watching:
…and here is a map of South Florida:
We are in Boca Raton and Phyllis is just south of us in Fort Lauderdale.
We are almost done with preparations, took from 7:00am to 7:30pm to secure our house as well as two neighbors with hurricane panels. Had to move everything outside in, got lots of canned goods, water, batteries and candles. Tomorrow we will take video of all the rooms in the house as well as outside and move all my solids into the safe.
It sure is a big storm so keep your fingers crossed for all of us in Florida.
Poor Ron, he just went through this!!!
<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> Thanks to everyone for their well wishes, we will (try) to keep everyone informed.
Thanks to y'awl for being concerned about us Floridians facing this monster.Yes Michele – Thanks for asking
Phyllis is okay and still sitting tight in the Ft. Lauderdale condo, on the beginning to rage ocean, even though mandatory evacuation has been in affect since 2PM. Depending on the early AM report from the hurricane center we will make our decision whether to head for my neice's home in the western part of the county or ride it out here. Have to decide before the bridges to the mainland are closed.
Have been busy this evening taking furniture off the balcony and trying to protect some of our small valuables in case the worst comes. Put the EL solid collection in the bathroom and will add my computer eqpt if we decide to leave. LOL
Will let you know how we fare. Hope Lisa and Jack keep safe.
