Many people are upset that so many newer empty solids are showing up on ebay (and rightfully so I must say Petals

I am not purchasing any of the new ones which have just been released. I will wait for them to appear at lower prices, as like many of our Collector friends, I am
fed up paying top prices only to see them selling cheaper later!

I will purchase the Harrods solids (if I like them) as they at least are released on a limited basis. The English Emblem has hardly shown up anywhere (less than 200 released) so that one will hold it's value.

I do want the Dragon…..the old one and the new one which has just been released. But I will NOT pay over $350 for an item which might end up
flooding the market. So my attitude now is, if I miss out, tough!

Hope this answers your question Lori.

Yup, protesting is a great way to put it. Last year I got the entire Saks group and two of the JL's, Harrods group and LV group. Last year was the first time I did not get any of the GD solids.

This year all I am getting the Harrods group and I already got the oyster (with a certificate) pagoda & pink lady (I wish I didn't get the last two because they do nothing for me.) I am NOT getting any of the Saks group or NM group or GD because of the ebay stuff and think way too many of each solid is produced.

As far as I am concerned it is all getting out of control so protesting, yes!

    I agree with you, but it's hard. I bought the pink hotwheels and it's growing on me sorta. <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />
    I may be blond but I'm not stupid <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> I like the CCS discount. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

It's too late for me to boycott. I just can't resist these things. I go weak when I pass the new ones and the next thing you know, I've got a bag with new solids in it.

But I agree with you, I hate to see them charge us these ridiculous prices, and then have the same solids show up on Ebay for so much less. I just don't like buying them this time of the year via mail…it's too hot here and they arrive hot. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

I'm off to Las Vegas next week. I'll be staying not too far from the Estee Lauder store. I've gotta go! <img src='style_emoticons//wub.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wub.gif’ />

I can't say I'm “protesting” exactly, just that I don't think the solids are as nice as they used to be. Remember Cinderella's coach, it was all sparkly – just magic. I'm sick of being told lies about there being only one of this and that here in Australia only to find we have been charged 4 times more than the US (especially for general distributions) and there are heaps. I buy what I like from the US now. Its simply that the products aren't as pretty, are much more expensive and come on sale at ridiculously low prices later on. Even if I can't access those sort of prices in Australia I know that if I need to sell (and I hope I don't) I just won't recoup my spending. Solids were supposed to be a collectible and therefore gain in value, not be like a car and lose money as soon as you walk out of the showroom. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

I like solids but now view them in “real” terms to use an economist's jargon. One solid is equal to a mortgage repayment, a new pair of shoes etc. Can I justify spending that amount of money on an ornament? In the end EL are just ignoring the basics of marketing. Who is king? The customer, the customer, the customer!! How do you focus your business: on what the customer wants, on what the customer wants!! Well this customer wants solids to be cheaper (much), better quality, prettier, and come with a limited edition signed certificate giving a number out of the total <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> – otherwise they are just a pretty perfume, not a collectible <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> .

Since we know that EL considers themselves above the customer I'm not going to get what I want. How will this customer respond? By continuing, like Lisa, to be realistic and slow my spending on solids. This year I may buy one or two from the general distribution, but I simply can't afford to be stupid with my hard earned money so I am endeavouring to move towards being a very small collector. I just don't want to spend $12,000 buying every one anymore – I can invest that sort of money better in the share market or real estate. Besides, I understand the laws of supply and demand. If demand falls, so must price to soak up the excess supply (hence CCS stores) or else EL will need to cut their supply to match the demand available, that is, if they insist on retaining these ridiculous prices. I refuse to be taken for a fool by a company that doesn't listen to me as a customer and will modify my buying behaviour accordingly.

In answer to Lori B, not a complete boycott but at this rate….maybe I will be by next year.

So far this year, I have not purchased a single new solid. Last year, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a couple of them — and, the year before I think I had to have almost all except for the general distribution.

I am not nearly as excited to even see the new solids in person. I am still thinking I may end up with just one or two (not 10). The general distribution solids are attracting my attention far more than the Saks, Neiman, or Harrods compacts.

But who knows — the year is far from over.

But, what really feels good (something I would really like to get used to) is seeing less of those high cost charges on my credit cards.

So, I guess THANK YOU to Estee Lauder may be in order for helping me keep my bills reasonable.

Sadly, ditto to most of the comments concerning the spending, quality and EL management of the solids.

I won't be buying any – I didn't last year either. I am just waiting, waiting, waiting for Ebay to produce them at rock bottom prices. They will come, no doubt – history has shown it happens.

Most of 2004 series are now almost half price already, so that's already double the amount you could buy with the same money . . . and now they aren't really collectibles as Lyndell has already pointed out!

Yep – I too can save my money and spend it on other worthwhile things. It's not justifiable anymore to 'invest' in the solids as it used to be. At least then you could really appreciate them (pardon the pun). <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

Bad luck EL – the buyers are dropping off like flies due to your inability to service them adequately.
