    Hi All –
Just wondering if the economic downturn has affected anyone's sold-buying experience.
As for me – I passed on my usual Harrod's solid shopping. Just couldn't see doing it this year when my retirement money appears to have disappeared. Have also seen a few harder-to-find solids NOT selling well on ebay, even with lower prices. I regretfully had to let a couple of those sell (or not) without my bids.
Just wondering about the rest of the EL collectors.

    Hello,
I have not bought a new solid perfume for over 2 year's. I got so tired of buying them at retail and then watching them sell on EBAY for a half of what I paid. I also have not been wowed by any of them in a long time. The only one's I will buy are the Las Vegas exclusives as long as they relate in some way to Vegas, so for me it's not so much the economy as it is other factors.

It is the economy that is stopping me from buying any of the pieces this season. Perhaps, it is because I am unable to buy at this time that I think these are some of the best pieces in a long time. I am confident that when the economy improves and if the time comes that I am able to buy again, I will be able to acquire the ones I am passing on this year. Happy Holidays.

<img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> A combination of BOTH reasons mentioned has affected my buying. As beautiful as some of them are, they are much too expensive to buy as they aren't as 'exclusive' as they would have us believe, and therefore not viable as the investements they used to be.

AS for the Harrods ones, well the current exchange rate HAS killed off any thoughts of buying them even though I would have LOVED to !

Oh well, it's not the end of the world not to have more of them, is it?!? <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />

It seems we are all trying to be more conservative in this crazy economy. With the exception of the Harrods I am buying only the older ones that are at bargain prices on ebay right now. Why buy new when they will appear at much lower cost in a year or two. This will hold true as long as they keep coming out fast and plentiful from the EL warehouse sales. I still love my collection and enjoy adding a piece whenever possible.

It hasn't stopped me from buying the compacts I love, since I don't just buy them for investment. I bought fewer in previous years when they didn't appeal to me.

I agree wholeheartedly with Phyllis. The only new solids I definitely buy are the Harrods. I think they really outdid themselves this year, but they are the only ones that seem to hold their value. I did buy all the general distribution solids this year as well. I thught they were really well done and a great value for the money. When they show up on Ebay, you don't take the financial hit that you do with some of the pricier solids. Now I wait for the others to show up on Ebay. I was so tempted last year to buy the Holt Renfrew shopping bag when it first came out. I'm so glad I didn't , I got it MIBB for less than half of it's original price. Ebay has really affected all my other buying as well. I saw a Kate Spade handbag in a Bloomingdales catalog in May. I wasn't willing to spend $395 on it, so I put a search in on Ebay. I waited 7 months, but was rewarded 2 weeks ago and paid less than half. I could have gone lower if I had gone pre-owned, but would rather not. Did anyone here on the site got the tennis racket or grammophone that was listed MIB for $17.99 BIN? I almost died when I saw that one, and sorry to say I didn't get either, they had been sold The seller obviously didn't know what she had, as she could have made more money…

Hi everyone, I too only bought the Harrods this year. I'm waiting on all others because of Ebay. I did go into The City the other day and saw Donna at Bergdorfs and she said the new spring solids will be out in a couple of weeks. I'm sure she'll let everyone know.

Have a Happy and Safe and Healthy Holiday Season! Best to All!

    Take care,

The economy hasn't effected me yet. I've had to spend conservatively for other reasons. I didn't even buy Harrods this year! I did in 2007 and that was a low collecting year for me as well.

I've kind of changed my tune… I haven't bought any since the fall. I keep getting calls especially from Saks about their beauty week and giveaways, but I'm tired of paying full price and then seeing solids dumped on ebay from the warehouse sales. Instead I'm watching ebay for older ones that I want to add to my collection, such as the tutu (ah…so elusive!)

The tutu is a great solid, one of my favs. I too have been concentrating on finding the older solids. I only bought the Harrods new this year. I just saw Estee Lauder had layoffs, so I imagine the solids will get dumped in the warehouses even sooner.

We have also been forced to bypass on the new ones. They have just gotten overpriced especially when they come out on ebay cheaper later.
That said, we still buy one from time to time. Just the other day we got the Neiman Marcus Texas one and love it! We love our collection just as much but are trying to use common sense in our buying now. Still, once in a while, the 'ol bug bites. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
