I am noticing on ebay that some of the general distribution solids are selling below retail. I bought mine for $75 and the one listed below is a buy it now for $59.99. How are they making money on this?

Interesting point, Pat. I'd say it's obvious the seller is getting a HUGE discount on the retail. How? It's anyone's guess, but if you wait awhile before buying there are MANY solids going for only HALF their retail value. I can't belive it myself and always ask myself HOW???
(Recently I got the Rollercoaster for $150.00 on Ebay Mint in Both boxes . . . . I thought it was a good buy, but then you never know how much the seller is making, do you? I also was pretty sus about being the only bidder) <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ /> Did I get 'ripped off' or not? Not if I wanted the solid, obviously, but does that mean that there will be heaps of rollercoasters coming up soon for even cheaper?? <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ />
It's anybody's guess. There seems to be no rhyme or reason even for the best detectives. If sellers are making money on selling new solids far cheaper than their retail value, then no-one is going to volunteer that information so we'll never know!! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />
NOTE: – there are 3 rollercoasters now on Ebay all ending within a couple of hours of each other. The first for $299.00, the second for $160.00 (no box though) and the third for $164.99 ('RARE' and Mint in both boxes). There are no bids on any of them. There are probably heaps more that I haven't seen. Does this mean that everyone who wants one has one and that there were too many made so they will be selling them off for $5 bucks at the outlets? <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />PetalsMemberDecember 1, 2004 at 9:49 pmPost count: 2373
We know that EL personell have access at very low prices. So that is how they are able to sell on at below retail. Work out twenty percent discount and then half of that! Brings it down somewhat doesn't it! My discount figures may not be one hundred percent accurate, but not far off! So, if I were not interested in Solid Perfumes and had this access, then the obvious thing would be to sell!

It seems kind of scary to see new solids sold below retail. I've been wondering how sellers could do that. Thanks to this site I learned that past season solids are sold as CC stores at a discount. Don't know about the current season, however. Wooo…a mystery.
Noticed November and December to be the biggest months for this to happen. In the past, I bought GD solids and others on ebay below retail (especially this time of year). No problems. Good sellers, although unrecognizable. Haven't bought any this year yet.LisaMemberDecember 1, 2004 at 10:33 pmPost count: 2664
When I worked for Estee Lauder we were only given a store 20% discount which could be used towards anything.
We were not allowed to order solids or any other seasonal items in our gratis.Martha CMemberDecember 1, 2004 at 11:14 pmPost count: 758
Well, I just don't get it. Why are the GD solids sold to SA's at deep discounts and not available to the customer? Our local Belk store received one solid, the Four Leaf Clover, and I bought it. There is another Belk store about 30 minutes away, and they didn't receive any. I had to drive an hour to a large shopping mall, and then the solids were still in the box, not even displayed. And we wonder why they end up in the CC stores.
