I have noticed lately on ebay 'home-made' solid perfume refills being sold. Whatever next? Perhaps the empty warehouse sale compacts being filled with these 'home-made' refills and sold on ebay as 'full'? Does it really matter? Would love to hear from you all on this!

I despair! When will it stop! Seems like the powers that be are intent in reducing the value of our solids even more! Bring back the old days when a solid was a solid. When oldies came up on ebay how we all went mad trying to purchase. Where has it all gone! WHOEVER IS OUT THERE DOING ALL OF THIS, Please stop!

I was wondering what “full” meant on ebay listings and then found out after buying an item so specified. It was full but not with the original perfume – was filled with the correct fragrence but obiously added from a recent purchase. I know I am very “picky” – like my items MIB but will purchase some older ones in good condition, with label and with some or even no perfume if it is in the rare category. When I expressed my disappointment the seller made it right. But I shall never buy one again that states full unless I confirm that it has the original perfume. Just another detail needing watching. Oh – the endless chores and diligence required of us poor, suffering, addicted, collectors. 😀

Its just another thing that makes life HARD WORK…..who can you trust nowerdays to sell you an honest solid, unless you know them or they belong to this site.

Agree with the sentiments expressed by Phyllis. Why on earth would one want to have an older solid with a new solid perfume inside the container. Doesn't make sense! And it is easily spotted with the way that the perfume ages (and there is no getting away from this fact). Very easy to see if someone has done this to a solid! I expect they will come up with a way to make the perfume look as though it has aged, but that will not be easy……..??????????????

Yes Margaret, agree! Thank goodness there are still the old collectors around who are aware of what is happening. Also thanks Lisa and Jack that we have our fantastic site to express our opinions and bring this information to all the new collectors!

    🙂

I too made the mistake of buying one of these “full” solids thinking that with that price I could live with it not being the original perfume, it seemed better that an empty solid (that I would never buy, I love smelling the perfume). However, the refills that are being sold and which the same seller puts in her empty solids to sell as full are nothing like the real deal. Although the scent is correct it is very faint and nothing like the original that can have a distinct smell for years and years on. I think it may be because the seller made her solid perfume from eau de toilette or something and the original solid perfume actually is PERFUME. Just like Phyllis stated: In future you have to make sure the solid is filled with the original perfume and not refilled with some homemade poor excuse. And now that the market is being flooded with these refilled solids how is one to ever be sure unless you buy everything MIB. I for one is not interested in the boxes but with this risk of having a refilled solid I feel I may have to change my opinion on MIBs. And here I was thinking empty solids was the worst thing….

I have purchased some of the small refill jars for my personal use. I can't use the spray perfumes, since the strong aerosol scent triggers my asthma With my new hobby of collecting solids, I fell in love with many of the scents, but couldn't find any solid perfume available for sale from Estee Lauder. The refill jars are a perfect solution for someone like me, who wants to wear the solid perfume but not ruin a collectible solid. For what it's worth, the refill perfume wears very nicely, maintains it's scent, and lets me enjoy the best of both worlds. I have purchased from this seller in the past, and have always found her to be very open and honest – I would recommend her, and would encourage any interested buyers with concerns to ask questions prior to purchase.//Kandie

Kandie, I hope my post didn't in any way indicate that I was misled by the seller. I knew what I was buying, if anything I was misled by my own wish to buy a “non-empty” solid cheaply. It is also my personal opinion that the home made solid perfume doesn't have as strong a scent as the original and it is very possible that I am just being too picky when it comes to perfume smells. I am glad that you have found such a great solution to your problem with wearing perfume thanks to these refills. I only wish they also would have solved my problem of finding solids filled with perfume, I really don't like them empty.

Thanks Karin – I understand! I don't like the empties either, and when I first started collecting, bought too many! I am new to the site, and delighted to find folks to talk with – my hubby doesn't share my love of Estee Lauder! I have so much to still learn – thanks for responding!//Kandie

I am afraid my feelings re the empty solids and now the refills which apparantly one can purchase, still remain the same!

I and others have been a collector for many years! This is not a new whim and something I have just found as a hobby to indulge in.

Let me make my personal opinion clear! I collect the solids old and new and other items relating to perfume. I have paid a great deal of money in the past to find my older solids and new ones, in mint condition. We have all seen the influx of the older solids which have been copied and also solids released at ridiculously low prices from the Warehouses and unscrupulous dealers.

Buy whatever YOU want but please do not say this is a good idea when something is once again affecting the many solid perfume collectors who have integrity, believe in their honesty as to what they wish to have in their collections. We are not talking about WOOLWORTHS! wE HAVE ALL SEEN HOW WOOLWORTHS WENT DOWN THE DRAIN HERE IN THE U.K due to their pricing etc. I do not want to see that happen with these beautiful items which I have spent time and money searching for over the years!

I think it is disgusting that now we have gone down to another level i.e. copying the actual perfume! As if it wasn't enough that people were copying the solids and selling them, WHAT NEXT!

I have no apologies to give in this respect. Perhaps Estee Lauder will be checking on this as it must be taken as counterfeit and on Ebay you are not allowed to sell counterfeit products!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I would want to buy a counterfeit product, I can find them in Hong Kong by the million. I would have copy handbags but I do not want them. The quality is not the same and they look tacky. The solids if they are counterfeit and the perfume is counterfeit, I would prefer to flush them down the toilet as they belong on the street markets where you know you are not purchasing the real thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They do not belong here on our solid perfume site!

Am very angry at the moment.

Is the seller actually making clear on the ebay listing that the perfume being put into the empty compacts is homemade and not the real deal? If not then surely ebay should be doing something about it and perhaps even the sleeping giant, Estee Lauder.

I don't care if it is homemade or made by EL. If it is not the orignal perfume I don't want it in a solid I am buying.

I appreciate your concerns and comments – please note that I was refering to the refill jars for my personal use. I tried to locate Estee Lauder refills, but came up empty handed. If anyone knows where I might purchase just the solid perfume for personal use, I would appreciate the guidance. While I am new to collecting, I am not very patient with hobbies and between 3 years of collecting Estee powders and a year of collecting solid perfumes, I have already invested ~$60k in compiling my collection of 400+ items. I share your concerns about devaluation, and unfortunately bought empty solids in the beginning not realizing that these might have been “factory rejects” or “irregulars” until I read the postings on this web site – live and learn! I wanted to share my experiences with this seller who I have always found to be honest and direct – if the item was refilled, the seller would be prompt and straightforward in answering, and if the item was original w/original perfume, the seller would confirm. Yes, there are a lot of misleading sellers on eBay and unfortunately, we all must shop “buyer beware” and ask questions before bidding. I just didn't want a seller who has been fair with me (and others, per the example above) to be labeled as scamming anyone or deliberately trying to mislead – I am just encouraging everyone to ask before buying, which while not new advice is always a good reminder. Best wishes//Kandie
