Empty Vs Full Compacts

Hello Collectors — I would like your feedback .
There have been many empty compacts on the auction block lately that are not filled, have no packaging and/or labeling. There are just as many on auction with old, brown looking and shrunken used perfume. Do you keep the old perfume or clean it out? What are your thoughts about compacts with or without the perfume inside? /smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

I would clean it out since you aren't interested in the contents anyway. I don't really see where dried old used perfume adds to the quality of the piece. When I buy them MIB I leave it inside, but if old and yucky I prefer to clean them out. I think it's strictly a matter of personal preference. I've bought several that are empty and it doesn't bother me at all. Truthfully, when I have seen the empty boxless solids on Ebay, I'm going to buy. I really don't think a box is worth $150-200 more for a solid, when all anyone sees is the solid in the curio cabinet anyway. My big ticket solids are MIBB, but since solids don't seem to be holding their value these days, I'm going boxless if I can get a bargain.

Thanks for your feedback — you made some good points. When I look at the very first compact I ever bought and see that the perfume has aged, my tendency is to hold on to the “whole” piece. So your point is taken that the value of the contents is strictly personal and whether to keep the contents will be decided one piece at a time. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

Hi there

From a purely personal viewpoint, I try to avoid buying an empty compact without its box unless it's an extremely rare piece, it just doesn't give me the same pleasure as seeing one of these little EL creations nestling in its original gold box! It's like buying a rare book, so much nicer with the original dust-jacket <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
