I saw the red tartan powder compact on eBay, with a buy it now price of $ 34.95.

    RED TARTAN Powder Compact

I sent an e-mail to EL headquarter telling them that I'm an avid collector and was very much surprised and also upset to find this item on eBay, which was sold only this autumn in the dept. stores, for only $ 34.95 and the dept.store price was $ 55.00.

    Here comes their response:

    Dear Ms. Werzinger,
Thank you for taking the time to email us at esteelauder.com.
We are honored that you have been collecting Estee Lauder compacts.
You should know that there are sites selling our products, like Ebay that are not authorized retailers of our products. This means that they do not obtain the Estee Lauder products they sell through us, which does not allow us to exercise quality control over products they sell. We cannot guarantee the freshness or authenticity of the Estee Lauder products they sell. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us and we will be happy to address any of your concerns.
We hope you will continue to visit us at esteelauder.com. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

    Adriane

Have you any words about this???? I think it's beneath contempt. According to my opinion EL ought to know who sells their rpoducts!! I'd love to hear your opinion.

    Have a great day, Brigitte

    Hello Brigitte,

Thanks for sharing this information with us.

What would be EL's response if we asked about the warehouse sales?

It's just bad business on the part of EL, they already lost me as a avid collector and many others here. It's just the end result when you feel all else has failed you.

I saw the tartan ones on eBay too yesterday, and was very surprised.

I know the seller (I buy a lot from them on their other ID's and all these selling right now are the same person) and it would seem that EL must have had a huge overrun of these compacts (or else absolutely no one is buying them) for them to already be liquidating the darn things even before Christmas!

This seems very unusual to me, but I don't really know when the compacts are generally 'put out to pasture', but I didn't think it was this early!

I didn't buy any of the powder compacts this year for the very same reason.

I informed my SA that I didn't see any reason to pay retail when I could buy them on ebay for a fraction of the price. In years past you had to wait maybe 6 months to get them “on sale” now they are on ebay as soon as they come out{ note the nutcracker and others}. I have spoken to everyone at EL from the top to the bottom and it falls on deaf ears. I now just buy what I like and as cheap as I can find them. Wholesale has become my middle name. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

As for as ” freshness ” of the product. I have solids from 1969 that are still fresh and some from 2005 that are not,so freshness is not a consideration .And powder compacts don't get old and if they did refills {powder only} are very easy to get .

On a lighter note– We are going to put some Christmas photos on the board in the upcoming days so stay tuned. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

The Estee Lauder reply is obviously a form letter. The first two lines are a veiled attempt to personalize it . A collector of your stature should be insulted. You are entitled to a personal, sensible reply. This is indeed beneath comtempt.

Your photos have been truly missed. Can't wait to see what works of art you will be posting for our pleasure.

I saw the new Christmas GD solids on Ebay for sale, and there was no mention of boxes, only pouches. Would they get them from warehouses this soon???

It could be someone from the factory.

    Brigitte and everyone else-
I've thought long and hard over this topic. Thank you very much Brigitte for posting this email. Knowlege is good. I too agree with what others have posted so I don't want to repeat the same thing. To give this Adriane credit, I'm glad you got any response from EL and the first two lines are nice. But that's where it stops. The first time I read her email it sounds what I call “canned”. She really didn't answer your concern and turned it around and talked about freshness and quality control. You were not asking her about those topics. You of all people to be responded to in this manner…it doesn't make any sense to me and isn't good. I can only speak for myself, but I like a lot of you all have been collecting for quite awhile and along the way I always learn something both good and bad. In MHO, there have been bad mistakes made by EL management regarding everything concerning producing a solid. Its too bad they don't listen to us because if a business doesn't listen to its customer it will loose sales. A case in point is that about three weeks ago I left a message for a SA at the EL Vegas store to return my call. Still to this day she has not returned my phone call–its too late now, they lost my business as this was not the first time they have not returned messages I have left. Like Lisa posted, I too am not the avid collector as I once was. This is OK because I'm very happy with what I have and will only buy now a solid or powder I really, really like. It has to really sing to me! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

On a positive side I still have hope and I still enjoy it when new pieces are released. Its fun to see what they come up with. Oh yes…and its a pure joy to see Ann and Ken's pictures. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

<img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> I rather like the “we are hounoured that you have been collecting Estee Lauder compacts” bit. It just seems so genuine, doesn't it . . . NOT !!

EL can't control what people sell them for, I agree. However, they can control what goes where to a point. Like not dump hundreds and thousands of them so early after their initial release!!

    Still, I guess we are the winners if we don't buy retail . . . . <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />

And to add insult to injury, I just noticed the new Strongwater solids being sold empty on Ebay from a Canadian seller…and it's only been a few months now! <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

After asking if a ebay auction perfume came with the box, here is the answer we received from the seller. <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />

“this item is directly from the estee lauder factory..my friends husband works for the company..you can rest assured that they are 100% authentic and i guarantee or your money back
but there is no box. i will put in a dustbag”

I was given the run-around by two SAs at the Las Vegas store regarding a purchase that I was trying to make with my reward certificate. The store manager was supposed to call me back. Two weeks later I'm still waiting…. After this experience, I'm not purchasing from them again. Not even the LV exclusives.

I have a friend who's mother worked at the estee factory several years ago. The employees were allowed to buy three a day at a 60% discount, if they were available. The ones they were allowed to buy she told me all came in their gold boxes just like we see at the stores. But they were only allowed to buy “overruns” .

Now I don't know how they decided what was an overrun , but they were in their company store. She also told me that they had strict guidelines about selling them or giving them to friends. Sigh, I could never get her to buy any for me…double sigh….But evidently they have relaxed some of their guidelines if this lady's hubby works there and she is selling them on ebay.

Just a tidbit of info I know from my friend.

Three per day is a lot of solids at a 60% discount !!

You could make a mint re-selling them. At that amount how do they monitor how many you keep or give away? Seems a bit strange to me <img src='style_emoticons//huh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’huh.gif’ />
