    Hi all.

It's been along time since I've posted.

I have been tossing this around for ages in my mind. When ever I see empty compacts on ebay , (not older compacts which have been used or previously owned, but new never filled ones). I just can't buy them . I want to but I feel like a traitor if I buy one that has never had perfume in it. Does any body else feel like this? I really would like to buy some ,especially the ones I don't have and want. I try to convince myself that the only difference is …. there is no perfume, the outside is still the same, but I am yet to commit to buying any. I guess I am putting it out there to see if I am being irrational or do others feel the same?

Maybe some one might convince me to just jump in and buy regardless of the perfume.

I collect them because I like all the pretties not because I see them as an investment (although that would be a nice benefit) .

    Annette 🙂

    Hi, Annette,

I'm a fairly new collector (just started this year) and I have been buying the empty compacts because, like you, I love the designs and also they are much less expensive (I'm a single nurse). I have felt torn at times because does that mean I'm not a “true collector”? I don't know. I suppose some people would say that I'm not. But I've also started to want solids MIBB and have purchased those as well. In fact I bought 3 new 2010 solids! I think it comes down to a personal choice. I'm collecting for me – not as an investment. Everyone has their own reasons and makes their own choices. What brings us together is the joy and enjoyment of collecting. Like the wonderful front pages that Lisa is creating. That's what it's all about!

    Hi Annette,

Great to hear from you again!

I totally understand how you feel… it's a personal choice… for me… I don't at all mind buying the empty compacts… especially if I don't have them at all in my

collection…. if I come across one MIB then I switch it out for the empty one… my ultimate goal is to have all my compacts MIB… but until then I love buying the empties… what a bargain they are!!

I just got the Jay Strongwater Fragrant Treasures (the box with the rose on top) and the pampered Pekinese.. I believe they both retailed for $250 each… I got them both for under $50… like I said can't beat it!!!!

I also want to add that I don't at all think the empty compacts are counterfeits-

We are all different… so whatever floats your boat!

    Happy hunting

Hi Nettie ! Fabulous to see you again!

I feel exactly the same way – like a traitor when I contemplate buying solids without box or perfume. I have never bought any without perfume, but have bought without box/es on very odd occasions . . . and still feel bad about that when I look at them!

So – maybe it's just an Aussie thing, eh? 🙂

I go along with Sandra. I have bought an empty or two in the past, but (I might add) there was something about them that was just not quite right! Having been collecting for some time now, I think I can recognise an empty which has been re-produced i.e. someone has put it together later adding the crystals etc. etc. We all know how this has been going on!. I bought the birdcage like this and was not happy with my purchase. Like all oldies, there are a few wrinkles which cannot be copied. There is not that worn feeling, that valued feeling and even though I have old solids MIB which have never been used and sparkle as new, they are obviously genuinely the real thing. Also they have the labels and REAL PERFUME! Even the old ones without labels and/or perfume have a different feel and look!

Another reason I do not want to buy the empty new ones is due to the fact that I feel I am being conned! I don't like feeling that way..

Either it is a genuine old release or you can keep it! Sorry, but it is as simple as that!

I do want the “original” perfume and label unless it is a very special one that I might not get otherwise. I like to have the box as well but never hesitate if it is one of the rarer, hard to find solids. (Like the Panda – 😛 )
