Speaking of exclusive solids. Does Estee Lauder still make them for the David Jones store in Australia? The only one we have ever seen is the hatbox. Are there others for DJ? Hmmm

I think there was only the Hatbox and Shopping Bag as exclusives to DJ's Australia.

    And Woody – you're a lucky guy!! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

I couldn't believe it went for so little! I was wondering where everybody was. I'm happy I got it, but wary about the prices on ebay bringing the value of our collections down.
    Happy bidding to all.. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

Yup, me too but that is where EL should step in. They should make sure the solids never get to eBay in the first place unless someone paid full price and is reselling, in that case the solids will always go for retail price, slightly higher or really high!

I'm embarrassed to admit I was a beanie baby fanatic <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> . I'd call Nordstrom's hotline and line up before the store opened in the morning to get the new releases. I bought some on ebay for over $100 each. Now they're worth $2 or less apiece. I stopped after Ty began mass-producing them and selling “retired” beanies in supermarkets. I'm afraid we are facing a similar phenomenon with the EL solids. Corporate America doesn't care about collectors. They want their profit here and now, and will discount inventory if necessary. As Lisa pointed out, the scarcer, older solids MAY hold their value, but the new ones probably won't. I will only buy now if I LOVE them…and will hold out for LOW prices. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> Ar

    Hi Everyone:

Hubby and I went to the Cabazon outlets yesterday…yup…hubby went with me! The only reason I think he tagged along is that he wanted to check out the Nike store and also to see the new Morongo casino. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

Anyway…the Judith Leiber outlet store is a few stores from the Nike store ( we had to park in no man's land and had to walk across the whole center so hubby had no choice but to tag along as I oohed and awed at stuff. <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> ) so….I was able to stop in and see all of the beauties. WOW! All of the items were 40% off and an additional 20% for the Memorial Day weekend. Before I decided on my very 1st Leiber compact…I went to the EL company store to see what they had. Well…I saw the new Leiber compact and it was only 30% off retail and when I told the SAs that the ones at the Leiber store were cheaper to begin with and another 20% off…they weren't too thrilled to say the least. I also saw the newly released GD powder compacts….including the petals of love which I had purchased at Nordstrom's for full retail. The perfume solids were nothing to crow about. Also saw lots of the Strongwater solids.

Anyway, I returned to the Leiber store, where the SAs were so nice and helpful and bought my Leiber compact for a little over $200 (including CA tax.) The price before sales tax was $197! Needless to say I am thrilled. Also…the Leiber compact comes with a powder refill. And it is MIB. So…PEANUTBUTTER….forget EL and head straight to the Leiber store. <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ />

AND..today I went to Nordstrom's to return the petals of love compact….told the SA there about the price at the outlet center and she didn't seem to care. I really think that they make their commission on the cosmetics NOT on the collectible compacts or solids.

Are the Judith Lieber outlets listed someplace on the web? I couldn't open the list of her boutiques on her website.Ar

Sorry, but the tutu's are long from the outlets, best bet is eBay or someone from this site.

Nope..no tutus….just the Strongwater solids and some GD solids.

    Have fun at the JL store PB. <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ />

Hi 2cute4u & Peanutbutter, I also am sort of hunting for the Tutu, I hope you find it Mary. I do have an extra Bustier if anyone is looking for one. I have a few others to sell and will post them later. Your neighbor, Lainey

When I worked at Lauder I did not get commission, we worked on levels. That is we had to sell a certain amount every month to maintain our pay rate, if we sold more we got more $$ and vice versa.

The SA's who get commission, as far as I know get paid on any EL SKU they sell so it would include solids and compacts.

I think EL should take up the Louis Vuitton approach to overstocks- they would rather destroy the merchandise than sell at a discount. Ever see your LV store having a sale or 20% off? That is why people are on waiting lists for months and vintage and new Louis always retain their value.

It is curious to me that the Strongwater products in general are also available on ebay for much less than Neimans, Saks, etc. I have purchased a couple of small JS items this way and they have been perfect, no problems. Both Strongwater and EL need to control who they sell to if they want their products to maintain the aura of luxury items that are only available at luxury stores. I am with you, Lisa, and planning to put my money into an older solid this year instead of a new one that will be selling for less next year. So, can anyone help me find a magic dragon? <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
