Could you tell us when exactly it is and where it is going to be?
Thanks,
Hi there! The convention is being held on June 22-24 at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Providence, RI. (1-800-333-3333). The hotel offered a special rate of $119/night through May 20th, but you still may be able to book. The events start Friday night and go through Sunday morning. You can contact Ros Gerson @ compactldy@aol.com for convention details. I would love to see a lot of my solidperfume.com friends there!

My husband and I will be there! Can't wait to see everyone. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
I'll have to double check our calendar, but we might be able to make that!
Does anyone have a schedule of events for the weekend?
Hi Jack! It would be great if you and Lisa could come.
As far as I know, Friday night is meet and greet, a dinner and the auction (donated items by members) benefitting Leukemia research. Sat AM is the collectors market (members only), the public can come in the afternoon. Saturday evening is the dinner with guest speaker presentations and Sunday morning is usually low key. I have heard that EL may host a brunch on Sunday morning, but I am going to miss it as my flight home is already booked. Sounds like a fun weekend!

Sorry that Gene and I are not going to make the convention this year. We will miss seeing fellow collectors and Roz and Al. Hope those attending will keep us up to date on all the events while they are having a great time.Phyllis
Hi everybody from Warwick, Rhode Island here at the Radisson Airport Hotel. My husband and I just arrived, we drove. Registration starts at 6pm – I'll check back with you guys after dinner tonight and let you know some of the people who made it.
Talk to you all soon, take care,
Katita <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Thanks Katita for letting us know you and your husband made it fine to Warwick for the big convention. I have been to two of them in the past and they are fun. I know you and everyone else will have a good time. I especially send to you and all of the solidperfume.com members who are there my very best wishes. Of course, we who could not make it there this year want to know everything that happened! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> I'll be real interested what EL does or does not do as well as what they say.
Take care,
GigiHi everyone <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
First, let me tell you how pretty Rhode Island is – there I just told you so now on to solid convention talk….Woody's here and so is Margaret and so are a lot of people who were at last years convention. Many faces are missing and we miss seeing them. The dinner and charity auction last night was really fun. I bought a Jay Strongwater mirror compact with a dragonfly on the front.
Today was the real deal starting around 8a when the Sales, Swap, Trade show began. I bought some nice old solids, the Love Locket, Pink Egg w/stand and the Millenium solid.
Woody really lucked out I think with a bit of EL ephemera – a sterling silver box (I think it's a large cigarette box) with an inscription to “Betty Toule” (an EL employee ?) from Estee & Joseph Lauder. I thought that piece was really something even though it's not a solid.
There were many beautiful compacts displayed and some interesting older items as well.
I don't think we'll be seeing EL until Sunday brunch – I'm not sure.
Well, off to eat lunch and walk around beautiful Rhode Island…..take care <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />

Thanks Katita for keeping us updated. I love hearing
about what's going on at the convention.
Keep your posts coming…Joni <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Hi everyone! Let me echo Katita's sentiments in that Rhode Island is a beautiful state. I was able to visit Newport over the last two days and seeing the mansions was really something. It is so nice to see Katita here and what a wonderful surprise to see Margaret and Galina! The convention has been very nice, seeing old friends and buying a few treasures. I will take a photo of the box that Katita mentioned…I think it is really something, but not as special as that Millenium necklace someone is wearing to dinner tonight!!
Estee Lauder will present their 2007 collection tonight at dinner and I am sure we'll have more to say about that later. I am flying home tomorrow and will update everyone then.
Woody
Thanks Katita and Woody – Great to hear about the area, events and your purchases. I really hate missing out on all the fun this year. Hearing the news from you two is the next best thing. Will be waiting to hear if EL will have any surprises.Phyllis
Hello Hello – boy did we eat! No one walked away hungry from this event. On top of the spread they provided and an extra bit of fun was Roz & Al Gerson's granddaughter gathering everyone there to sing them a rousing Happy 60th Anniversary and bringing in a beautiful cake to share with us. It was very sweet and really made us feel like we're all part of the same family. It was lovely.
Bob Conti was one of the guest speakers and he presented us with a dialog of how the pieces are made and a small table was set up so we could see some of the tools of the trade. Andra Behrendt owner of Lade A Antiques provided a power point presentation on celluloid compacts which was a lot of fun. Celluloid compacts are very old – late 1800's early 1900's.
Estee Lauder won't be giving their presentation until tomorrow morning at brunch. I will be driving home after that and will post as soon as I can. I have some pics to upload as well.
Good night everyone,
KatitaHome, Home, how good to be HOME! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
We had a crazy last night at the hotel due to a wedding with a lot of drinking and pulling of fire alarms in the middle of the night forcing the hotel to evacuate around 1:30am – the fire department didn't shut off the alarm for another 45 minutes or so after the false alarm was determined – no one slept well. <img src='style_emoticons//blink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’blink.gif’ />
I will be posting pictures but first I have to nap! The brunch was really nice and the tennis racket was for sale for $250 – this is the American version – there's a Harrods version with a green handle – ours is blue and it says US 2007 on the side – I'll post pics. The new solids have moving parts! They are good looking in person – I don't think the translate well to pictures. You can't play with the moving parts. The Jingle Bell really jingles – I love it. The Gramophone's crank really cranks and the Planes wheels and propeller move. The turtle's head and tail move too. Oh – and the sailboats sail moves.
I don't really collect powders but the Dear Santa is really cute. It's addressed to Santa Claus, 1 Artic Circle, North Pole. Cute <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
I'm sooo tired – off to nap for me.
Take care, everyone, more later…..Katita
