I collected EL solids in 2002 and went WAY overboard with the credit cards. So I sold my whole collection of about 30 MIB late that year to pay the credit cards. Now I would like to start collecting again. After reading some posts in the forum, it seems I should only buy solids that are MIB. On Ebay I notice they are over $200!
Back when I collected before the only thing I paid over $200 was for the slot machine and the black cat on the gold pillow. Where can I find cheaper but good ones in boxes?Hi, I'm new to collecting solids also. I think it depends on why you are collecting. Yes MIB is preferable, but if you are collecting just to enjoy them I see no reason not to get something you love just because it has no box.
I've got most of mine off ebay and some from a member off this site. I have bought some with no boxes that I had to have but couldn't afford or boxed. There is also Rubylane and Keegans Korner, but I find these sites too expensive.
So my advice is buy what you can afford box or no box. That way you can enjoy them without the worry of bills!!

When I first collected I wanted them all. What I soon learnt to do was to look at them for a couple of weeks and during that time I always went off at least three quaters of them and very often only ended up buying one….also I concentrated on the Vegas Solids, and most of them have kept their price.
Most of my collection is MIB and thats the way I like it, but if I see one of the older ones going very cheap without box then I will buy it.

I think most of us agreed to not by them so cheaply on Ebay without box or perfume because we didn't want to support the bulk warehouse buyers who get them for next to nothing and sell them to unsuspecting collectors.
If you want to seriously collect anything, mostly they will be MIB.
Sometimes if you wait, a piece will come up MIB that is within a reasonable price range.
If you buy without box and empty, although it may seem cheap at the time, I think you will find you are paying too much unless you go to the warehouses yourself and buy them at around $5.00 a pop of whatever ridiculous price they are there.
At least if you buy MIB, then you know that your collection will appreciate over time and not be available at a 'dime a dozen'.
IMHO of course !
WELL SAID SANDRA!!!!!!
NOW WE'RE TALKING!

Dear, dear Sandra – Love your ability to be oh-so-subtle and polite when I KNOW there is fire and brimstone shooting out of your eyeballs! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Right now you remind me of the Little Green Dragon!
All in all, you are spot on!
Take care….miss you…
<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> yes, polite is my middle name ! But you have me right, Michele – fire and brimstone bubbling underneath – very much so !!
Miss you too !
I know what you guys mean. I'm just getting started and I can't have enough! I want them all! I'm doing my best to keep my spending within reason and have a list of a few solids I want the most and I promised myself that from now on I won't buy more than one a month.
Lauren
<img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> Betcha won't stick to that rule !!
I am trying to stick to the one a month goal, but it is soooooo hard. I find myself gazing longingly at the Bustier, Dragon, Peacock, Peas in a Pod…. oh the things that dreams are made of.
I often wonder if at the Lauder headquarters if they have all of the solids from each year on display. I would love to see that if they did. I'd actually travel there to see it, if they even let me see them, drool and all! LOL!

I'd travel half way around the world to see that too !
They do have a E.L. museum, a few years ago they came to Harrods with the display.
They borrowed my Plumb Powder Compact for a couple of weeks….guess they did not have it. I don't think that they have them all because when I have been to the U.S. powder compact convention they sometimes give you a sheet of paper with certain Solids and Compacts on that they want, if you have them you can sell them back.
Margaret
Was the museum display just powder solid compacts, perfume solid compacts, makeup or all of the above? I would really love to be able to have all the solids and open my own little museum here in FL. Yal'll can come visit on your way to all the theme parks! LOL! Or just stay and enjoy! I would have to have a Swiffer ready for all the drool and one heck of an Estee gift shop! Oh the things that dreams are made of… I've got 60 and only have….what a few thousand or so to go before a museum?!
I really think my spouse will have a fit over that one…well at least I have some training time!
Welcome to Jens Tropical Bed n Breakfast and Estee Lauder Solid Perfume Museum! To be opened at a later date! I think I better work on the title that is one heck of a business name. LOL!
When I retire I think I'll might just join you. I'll bring my collection and who knows we might get a museum together <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> It's a great idea <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ /> Never been to Florida but I'm sure I like it there – with a solid museum it will be the best place to be <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
