Please beware of this ebay seller who has been auctioning Estee Lauder solid perfume compacts on ebay. I won an auction in Nov. but the seller never sent the compact and will not answer emails. Also, her paypal info does not include her address and phone number because paypal now apparently allows that information to remain private. I don't know how they can keep that from a buyer, but they do!!!
I filed a dispute with both ebay and paypal. Paypal sent me an email that says they are too busy to respond! I finally contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge and leave the investigation in their hands (thank you, Amex!).

    Ar,
Good luck with paypal. I discovered that they can sure be unfair when filing a claim. I no longer use them. I visited with many other fellow ebay sellers that advertise they don't accept paypal and found that paypal has also been unfair to them in claims that they filed. Paypal is fine as long as you are dealing with honest sellers and buyers, but if you have to claim a file………then you could be in for a long unfair ordeal! Paypal makes it sound like they are fair to both parties, but believe me they are not! The human beings on the phone are very nice and understanding, but the email replies are like they are from robots and aren't compassionate at all! I wondered if these people even worked for the same company?? Anyhow I hope you get your money back! I wish you the best of luck!

    Gayla,
Thanks for the advice. I filed a claim directly with my credit card company, not paypal. Paypal deducts $25 from the claim (if successful) for costs. How unfair is that!

    Argh!! Hearing this makes me sick! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

    Paypal and Ebay are best buddies now and VERY rich !! <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

Extremely hard to get anything out of them, yet they take your money with gusto. They are getting a bit like banks – fees for everything as they are the lifeline for the world to trade in . . . .

Either you pay up and cop all the fees without complaint or go back to the dark ages . . . . . whatever happened to good old fashioned charity and honesty?

I'll tell you what happened – the 21st century!! Everything now means corporate dollars. customer service = time = money. Funny thing is, Ebay and Paypal protection only really work to protect the dishonest. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />

But can we bear to live without them? I don't think so. There is no real alternative yet ! Can't wait for something else to give them good competition so that they lower their fees and up their service . . . <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> sorry, it's a sad joke that I just can't believe will ever happen in my lifetime . . .

I've been cheated by 2 ebay sellers before. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> One for a $20 something ruby ring and the other for a $100 pair of shoes.

Luckily, I was able to recover my money through paypal both times.

I lurk on various message boards concerning ebay. What I learned is that you have to know and follow paypal policies. You may still have problems, but you will have a better chance to recover your money. In the future, its best to……..

Always file a claim with paypal 1st. For some reason they absolutely HATE it when users go directly to the credit card company. I don't know why, but believe me on this.

If paypal gives you a stupid canned response fairly quickly, try again. Keep trying until the deadline (I think you have up to 45 days after payment).

Once you submit your claim, it can take up to 30 days before they do anything. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> They took about a week in my situation. Please wait if it takes the full 30 days for you. They make you wait because they want to give the seller an opportunity to respond. Plus, they might be too busy and need the time.

Ok, paypal should side with you if you follow the deadlines…and the seller couldn't provide proof of shipment. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> At this point, the seller could change their mind and immediately ship the item(s) without a chargeback going through. They didn't in my case. So, I was able to recover my money. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

However, despite winning a claim through paypal, things have gone wrong for many others. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> One of the major problems is the inability to collect funds. <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ /> I don't know why they can get money back from some sellers while not others??? Its just painful.

You can always go through your credit card company after you finished with paypal's requirements…as a last resort. I'm not sure if paypal with “punnish” you at this stage, but they will definitely do so if you went to the cc company 1st.

PS: You should leave sellers negative feedback if they don't ship your items or at least make an effort to help/compensate you. This will help other potential bidders greatly…so they know to stay away from crooks. Don't worry about retaliatory negatives. I have one and it looks silly; hasn't hurt me one bit. I rarely leave sellers bad feedback, but I will when I get cheated.

    Hi everyone

Isn't Paypal a subsidiary of Ebay Inc and have you noticed how difficult it is to find other online payment services on ebay, such as Nochex?
Heard through the grapevine that Google may consider setting up a global auction house, how true that is who knows but here's hoping! <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//rolleyes.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’rolleyes.gif’ />

Hello, I had one bad experience buying on Ebay. I bought about $300 dollars in china from a new seller to ebay. The auction said they would be sending through the US Mail. They ended up sending everything via FedEx. The china wasn't packaged properly and everything was broken. I filed a dispute with PayPal. A day later the seller called and begged me to drop the dispute that she would be getting the money back from FedEx and had already filed a claim, and would send my money back. I dropped the dispute. BIG MISTAKE! I found out the box was only insured for $100. The account number she used was her employer, so that meant she would never see the refund money. Anyway I called her and she kept telling me “she was a good single mother and kept promising me she would send back my money, other excuses, dad lost his arm, etc. Once you close the dispute with PayPal, that's it with them. I contacted my credit card company and they told me that I needed to ship everything back to the seller, and I paid extra for “Restricted Delivery”, that meant that she could only sign and pick up the package. The package sat at the post office for one month. After that I called and had it sent back to me. After the month I had all the post office documentation to send to my credit card company and then they refunded my full amount. It was a long process but worth it. I never heard from the seller again. In speaking with the credit card company, PayPal will have to go after the seller to cover the funds. They say it will go to a collection company. So you always have your credit card company to fall back on if things should go wrong. Hope I didn't bore everyone but just thought you should be aware of what happens when you drop your PayPal dispute.

Wow!! What a schmoggle to go through !! I admire your persistence and am so glad for you that it was worth it and you got your money back. So many times I have had to cut my losses and give up after months of going back and forth in a dispute. It's so nice to hear when it all works out.

In my Ebay experience basically, if sellers are decent they don't give excuses, they just refund the money promptly without promises. If there is no reply or refund within 48 hours then I guess you are going to have a problem. I have also heard the strangest of sob stories to avoid doing anything for you and hope you 'go away'.

Usually I respond with “if there is any truth to your story, then I sympathise with you and will not bother you again. If your story is made up then it is on your conscience and I believe in the power of karma. Good luck to you for the future”.

I know it doesn't get your money back, but going to expenditure through sending things back puts one into more debt, does it not? I refuse to do it and cut my loss as I don't have time to pursue bad Ebay wins . . . however, I admire and applaud those who do . . . and get their money back! <img src='style_emoticons//wink.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wink.gif’ /> Good on you, Ione !! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
