Would your opinion change IF for instance the 1968 gold rope with turquoise stone solid was seldom seen and very rare( for real) ???

Do we like something more if it is hard to get????

I know I personally liked it when I first got it but now don't when I see so many and they sell for about $5.00.

Some I am sure we would like no matter what ( carousel) but what about the “less attractive” ones. Would rare make it more “attractive”?????

That's a very good point, Ann.

I loved the rope compact and have enjoyed it. Now that you see them everywhere it somehow lessens it's appeal.

Yes, I agree with you both, it's just because we see it everywhere. I do like the original one, the one with the navy stone and also the re-issue. The re-issue is actually the harder one to get (there is one on the for sale page) <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ />

Personally, I love the cameos. I wonder if more people would like them if they weren't a general distribution, but say a limited production each year. They are classic.

Hmmm . . . I don't think I've ever liked something less because I've seen it cheaper . . . . I seem to also be drawn to the 'expensive' and rarer ones. I think I would still love the carousel even if it was as available as all the other circus pieces.

Then again, I do not like the Princess one and she goes for a mint!! I would have no intention of buying her to keep even if I found one by accident at a garage sale for $5.00. And the same goes for the others in the ivory series . . . . it's a matter of personal choice for me.

I paid a squillion for the Sphinx over here, and even though they are a dime a dozen, I still love it the same as I did when I bought it, I just wish I hadn't paid so much!! If I didn't enjoy it so much, perhaps I wouldn't have paid the money for it . . . damn it!!

    Sometimes yes — sometimes no.

I wanted the turquoise rope when I first saw a MIB one. Prices were $100 or so and I kept getting outbid. I gave up. Then, prices dropped like a lead balloon. Tons of MIB ones showed up and I got tired of looking at them. I feel like screaming everytime I see one listed–MIB or boxless, doesn't matter. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> I get bored of too much repetition.

Strongwater solids are some of my favorites (excluding this years). I heard they increased production = less rare. Also, I saw plenty from the warehouse sales on ebay. I don't care. I love the dragonfly, acorn, birds nest, bird bath, butterfly, etc.

Harrods bear (Rodney) is my favorite. I loved it from the 1st moment without hesitation. I felt guilty spending $200 because none of my solids were near that price range up to that point (usually spent under $100). No more than 5 were listed at that time period. Plus, I thought Harrods wouldn't make any more bear solids. I knew I HAD to have it else loose my opportunity. Good decision because look at the scary prices now. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> I treaure it even more.

    Good ? Ann.
    The golden rope is my very first solid. It was a HS graduation gift. Of course I used the perfume <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />
For an 18 year old girl I thought it was such a big deal to carry it in my handbag.
So it was be nice if it was rare instead of start up price .99 on ebay <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />

Greyhound – you bought Rodney for $200.00 on Ebay? Half your luck!! I only wish I could have found five on Ebay too . . . . he was a BARGAIN at that price!!

    Hi Ann

That is a very good question!!!

I am completely sure I like, no matter what, the carousel (and so on)!
Also I know, I will never ever like the “less attractive” ones, rare or not!
So – to me personally, rare would not make it more “attractive”!

PS.: Catherine – I love the cameos also (only 3 Cameos I don't like)

Catherine – I love the cameos too! My favorites are the ones with two faces on them and also the high relief ones. If EL is going to continue to put out a cameo every year I wish they would try a different color background. Such as a mint green or sage color instead of always doing blue or coral. I also hope EL will use different faces on any future cameo solids they might produce.

Ann – I don't have any of the Ivory series. I consider them rare, but I'm not interested in adding them to my collection. Right now I'm very interested in solids that have a lot of crystals. I consider the red and clear crystal heart necklaces rare because I don't see them on EBAY that often. I would love to add them to my collection.

I loose interest in a solid when it has been made too many times. There are tons of cameos, frogs, & cats. The cat on the pillow has been made several times in different colors. EL did the same thing with the cameo. They used the same face but change the background from coral to blue or changed the border design. But there's only one giraffe, one Taj Mahal, one cowboy boot. I think the unique solids have a better chance of going up in value over time. But this is just my opinion.

I don't necessarily like something because it is rare or valuable. I love ALL the cats (I am a cat person) and I love the cameos. And I treasure some of the older ones because they were gifts. But I do love the sparkle and detail of some of the later ones, like the Mermaid and the Bird in Bloom, and of course the newest Lucky Dragon. I wouldn't go out of my way to add something to my collection just because it is rare. I collect the ones that just fit my tastes, whether they are $6 or $600. I think that is what makes each of our collections unique. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
