Hi Lyndell, You are in Australia yet have this information from Bergdorf Goodman. Does she contact you by email and do they extend these offers to overseas?
Which solids do they have?

Yeah Lyndell – thanks for the info . . . . nice to see another Aussie up and running!
How did you get the info and where are you based in Australia?LyndellParticipantSeptember 23, 2004 at 1:07 pmPost count: 49
<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> Hi Jacqueline and Sandra,
Donna and I got to know each other through solid collecting. You would need to ask her if she is able to send overseas. It generally depends on your customs people and any problems that may be encountered there. If you e-mail her she will answer your questions. As I have said she is very helpful. She has the general distribution solids and the Judith Leiber ones, also some powder compacts I believe.
I am in Sydney but am only an occasional visitor to the site these days as life keeps me too busy to log on regularly. Generally speaking buying in the US has been much cheaper for me and consequently my Aussie purchases are limited now. This saddens me greatly as without a bigger purchasing power in our market EL claims that the price will remain high here because we have too small a market. I have even been told that EL Aust pays higher than the retail US price so that's why our price must be so high. Unfortunately I cannot afford to subsidise EL to the tune of 100% more (and higher) than I pay overseas so I rely on collector friends to help out. Luckily we are a friendly bunch used to helping where we can!!
Until I log on again….

Thanks for the info, Lyndell. I totally agree with you about the plight of the solids in Australia. It's disappointing for us, isn't it – I'm just thinking of the amount we used to spend on them before we latched on to the American market too. Just incredible, isn't it?
Good to hear from another Aussie, and a Sydneysider at that! <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />sstMemberOctober 6, 2004 at 8:57 pmPost count: 6
I haven't visited the site for a while – but it was a delight to read about collectors in Australia with the same thoughts eg prices in Australia.
Due to the cost involved purchasing them in Australia and/or personally travelling overseas in order to add solids to my collection, I have slowed down on my collection . (Its also difficult travelling with 2 children under the age of 2 and a husband!!!!!)
I received a David Jones catalogue yesterday – showing the 2004 solids. It was wonderful to know the Jay Strongwater collection was finally being sold here. This is a good start – perhaps next year the prices we pay in Australia will be in line with the exchange rate!AuthorPostsViewing 6 posts - 1 through 6 (of 6 total)
