Just a thought, but how does one know that the signatures on the signed solids are authentic!

I was under the impression that signed solids always have both boxes, i.e. Gold and outer White Box.

    Hi Jacky –

I've been asking myself the same question for several years. <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> A good scribble could pass for a “signature” in many cases. However, Jay Strongwater doesn't sign the box…he signs the actual piece. And he can write/print really, really tiny!

As far as Conte or anyone else, we just have to go by what we see most often. And it's usually on at least one box…I don't think it has to be both boxes. Then again, I'm not sure.

    Boy, that was helpful, wasn't it? <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

I only have Strongwater solids signed, so I don't know about the boxes or other designers.

I received a certificate of authencity at Strongwater's signings. I bought 2 solids and received only 1 certificate (this happened twice). Hopefully, no one will think I have fakes in case I need to sell one without a certificate. <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ /> Then again, if you see me selling any, you know I'm having financial problems.

    Hi Greyhound –

From my limited experience, if Jay signs more than one piece, just ask for that many certificates. He'll give them to you. As far as re-selling his items with only the signature, check out “Strongwater” on eBay…no one sells their items with a COA, which tells me they weren't signed in front of them. I'd check the signature, since you already have the real thing, against what they send. But his signature on items does add to the value, certificate or no certificate.

Here are three examples of signatures from Bob Conte, Jay Strongwater, Mohamed Al-Fayed and a Strongwater authencity certificate.

Thanks Lisa! It will be interesting to compare now that the signatures are on site!

All Harrods signed pieces usually come with both boxes, i.e. Gold and White but unfortunately they are not accompanied by a Certificate of Authentication. Mr. Al Fayed often signs the top of the Gold Box as well as the small card relevant to the solid. The ones of mine which I have been able to check for the moment, have the top of the Gold Box signed as well as the card. I still have to check one or two others.

Today, which I will be writing about under a different heading, appears to be the
most assured way of determining authenticity i.e. Jay Strongwater' Certificate accompanying the solid or item! Had I known your problem Greyhound, I would have tried to get your Certificate !!!!! <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ />

    Hi,

Iëm wondering if anybody got certificates ñ like the one shown in the picture- for the Strongwater 2003 solids. In December 2002 I got a certificate for each solid while Jay Strongwater was signing at Saks in New York. Last year at his signing I didnít get any certificates, ìjustî his signature on his solids. Even on Ebay I never saw a one with a 2003 date. Maybe somebody knows more and can tell me if Saks even made 2003 certificates.

    Thanks

    Sabina,

Yes, I did get a 2003 certificate- although my solid was signed in Jan. 2004 so the date on the certificate is 2004 not 2003.

I have a certificate for each of the 2003 signed Jay Strongwater solids I bought – the certificates are dated December 4th, 2003. His signature is on the bottom of each of the solids.
