Hi Ann and Ken
Looking through old forum posts, one can't help but notice the praise you get for your displays. However, us newbies can't get access to these pictures

Thanks

I second that beg as a newbie!!
I read about them also and wondered if the displays are like the ones photographed in the Estee/ Gerson book. I would love to collect enough solids to make little displays like that. Right now, I am looking for the shorter, bowfront curio chests or glass display chests to display my solids. I don't like that they are getting dusty sitting on my glass shelving wall display. I figure that will keep them safer.
Hurricane season is supposed to be horrible this year according to the weather. Maybe I should just pack up my solids for a little while. In case of fire, flood, hurricane or other disaster, my solids are traveling with me! LOL! I'm taking my solids, the dogs and my cat. Everything else can go! I have my priorities!
Yes, us oldies had the pleasure of seeing Ann and Kens picture displays. We also used to have a members' picture display section in the above tool bar …..
When I think back to those days, you newbies really missed out. We used to have arguments and God knows what else on this site… But, on reflection it showed we were all passionate about what we believed etc., and there was always something going on. Now, it has all quietened down somewhat! Also for the newbies, look at the little Green Magic Dragon in the right hand corner. That is in memory of Michaela who had such a wealth of knowledge including Corday, E.Lauder and other solid perfumes.
I did put forward the idea that we all pay a small yearly subscription (others put that forward too) as perhaps more people would write as in the past! I remember not too long back we nearly lost this site and yesterday I had pangs of that again with a fault we were experiencing resulting in not being able to check in!
Well, I leave that to all of you but $10 membership per member would not be a hardship rather than dribs and drabs throughout the year (which I have only done once)….
So how about a petition, someone, so that we can get Jack and Lisa to accept this. Perhaps then we could have the members' photos back and alot of other members who might start writing more too!
Over to you…and I hope I do not get into trouble for this post!!!!

Hello Butterflies, strangely enough I was thinking about hurricanes etc., before reading your post. The weather this year has been so strange and it was the coldest longest winter for over 100 years (I believe) and my thoughts turned to Florida and the hurricane season. I just have a feeling, and I pray I am wrong,
that this year maybe a particularly bad one!I have never known a winter like it. The few days of sunshine we have had, have been lapped up but today it is raining and miserable! Tomorrow my niece has a 40th birthday party but I doubt it will be warm enough to stay in the garden.
Take care and I hope your prediction about the hurricane season will not happen. Have you heard that officially??

Thanks for the request. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
Ken is home this weekend and we will see what we can do . Keep in mind that any photos we post will be the old ones as we have not done new ones in awhile.
Any certain one you want to see?As far as hurrcanes– we went thru katrina and had plenty of time before hand to pack up the solids but now we are in Oklahoma and there is no time before a tornado. <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//ohmy.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ohmy.gif’ />
I have a “special” box of solids packed ready to go in the stormshelter but time I get 4 cats in the shelter the storm is over.We are just now getting an adjuster for the last hail storm 2 weeks ago.
New roof ,gutters anything outside was totaled.Ken and Ann[/B]
Hi Ann and Ken <img src='style_emoticons//biggrin.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’biggrin.gif’ />
Wow, now that is what you call service. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
I personally don't have any certain ones, and I certainly don't care that they are old photographs. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
Hurracaines and tornedos <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> And we moan about the weather over here!!
Thanks very much
Sharon
Yes, the forecasters are predicting an active hurricane season. The biggest concern is whether a hurricane will whip the oil in the gulf onto shore. No one knows how it would be cleaned up if it contaminates buildings and land. The oil spill is already a major disaster… <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ />
Ar<img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> Hi Ann and Ken – nice to 'see' you again ! Had no idea you guys moved so far away from where you were and are facing yet another 'natural disaster'.
Sorry to hear this, but glad you are both well and have all your solids with you.
Take care – also looking forward to re-seeing the solid displays you posted before – they were / are really great ! <img src='style_emoticons//cool.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’cool.gif’ />
As far as having members donate to help the site run. I would do that. I know everything costs money. As far as it being quiet in here. I think with all sites there are ebbs and flows. Since it doesn't seem to be 'open' forum here, I think talk stays pretty much with perfume solids.
Ken and Ann, nice to meet you. Your wonderful reputation precedes you!
That is one thing that I think this site is missing. Being able to post photos of your collection. So we can see eachother's collections and displays. I don't know if ya'll used to do that or if that is left up to making a website. It's just a thought.
Well I hope no one floods off, blows off or storms off! Have a great Memorial Day weekend!!
Yep. Being able to post photos used to happen.
And yes, members and guests are already able to donate to this site to keep it running – under the contacts & donations tab at the top of the page. This came about not long ago when Lisa and Jack were considering closing the site.
Also Jacky, I'm sure that if the site were to close, Jack would warn the members via the site first (like he did before), letting us know of any changes etc, especially since some members make regular donations, not just one offs.
Hello Butterflies, yes we all posted and there were separate areas for posting pictures. It got us all up and about trying to take pictures and learning from Ann and Ken re the wonderful ones they used to post.
Due to this, one of our mnembers became engrossed in photography and we lost her as a solid perfume collector. I still have pictures which she posted to me i.e. incorporated in Christmas cards etc. with her beautiful little dog.
As regards Hurricanes etc., my brother and wife live in Florida and have been nagging me to visit. I was thinking after the summer months here i.e. to go there maybe for Christmas this year…
Do hope all stays well….
Petals – It's safe right now and there is always great warnings of hurricanes. No excuses, come and enjoy the wonderful FL summer heat! I am hoping they have a pool for you to enjoy!
Sorry I am not going to photography, I might snap pictures but I'd always rather be snapping up more beautiful solids!!
