I was wondering if anyone could offer me help or advise? The other day I got a package in the mail and without opening it could tell it came from a smokers home. The solid inside was the “treasue of the Orient” necklace and carries the smoke smell on the silk cord and tassel.

So far I placed the solid in a plactic bag with some baking soda (the two did not touch) and hung the necklace outside overnight to “air” out, but still smelling.

I really /wub.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’wub.gif’ /> the necklace and hope someone could offer me some advise to remove the smoke smell.

You could try putting the necklace in an empty shoe box. Sprinkle or dump lots of Vanilla Flavor carpet powder in it, put the necklace in that and put the lid on the box. Leave it in for 24 hours and then change/refresh the powder. No…the tassle will not have the odor of vanilla, and if it does…it will disappear in a day or so. Just keep on changing and refreshing it for about 3-4 days. The same thing happened to me and my son said “Mom…you're never going to get that smell out…just throw it away.” Not. I put the necklace in an empty dresser drawer (all sweaters went on top), filled it up with the Vanilla powder and voila'! Within 3 days it was like new.

When I buy old books smelling wet, or items smelling smoke I place them into a box with cat litter during some days. The best brand (here it's “catsan”). After you don't smell anything and you can use your box anti-smell many times.

Maybe it's the box, and not the stuff we put in it? hmmmmm…..

I take the item out of the box into the litter and the box of the item into the litter too. Hope you understand. The litter makes the cat'smell disappear so, no problem with the smoke it is not so much strong.
