Just opened by new 2005 Jay Strongwater enchanting pagoda. My first reaction was

The other side of the coin…just opened mine and IMHO, it's MAGNIFICENT! Feel like I'm on the tippy top of Victoria Peak looking over all of Kowloon…absolutely one of Strongwater's Best! <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />
The inside is inscribed simply: Strongwater for Estee Lauder – 2005.
Yes, it's large…love the multi-colored enamels…deep reds and forest green…gorgeous stones with perfect placement.
Will give you a quick peek of the side view and let Lisa do the front….must now run and find a Junk to put next to it! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />
Must add…it's filled with “Beyond Paradise.” There was no receipt enclosed so I can only assume it's a “gift” from Estee Lauder! <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ /> <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

I would have to say from the bottom to the tip of the roof it looks to be about 1 1/2 inches tall and also wide.

Thanx Lisa and Michele for the pictures- <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> I don't think I like if for $225.00. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> It doesn't look as detailed and awesome as the other Strongwaters I have seen and loved in the past- I guess I will have to see it in person to make my decision??

Hi Margaret – Lisa's measurements are just about right on. The base of the “first floor” is 1-1/2″ wide, with the width of the largest roof being about 2″. The smaller roof reminds me of the Circus Tent roof…I don't have that particular solid, but if anyone does, could they please measure the tent roof?
The different colored stones on the door represent all the different shades of green and brown enamels, which Lisa was able to pick up on very beautifully.
You have to remember…in the Orient, color is part of their culture…this piece tells me Mr. Strongwater has been there more than once. He understands their love and respect for true, deep colors. It's all blended just beautifully.
I think after you study it for a bit, and if you're familiar with the Orient even a little, you'll begin to understand the beauty of the piece. Again, this is only MHO! <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

I haven't seen it in person, so I can't say if I will buy it. Mmmmm….I wished it was tall like the one in San Francisco. Kind of disappointing. $225 is a bit much. I may wait for a discount. <img src='style_emoticons//tongue.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’tongue.gif’ />

I hear you Greyhound.
I wish it was taller too and that the corners of the roof swept up to curved points and held small tassels.
I also just wish the areas around the windows and doors were more detailed.

I was really hoping that I wouldn't like it, but alas “ching, ching.” I love the deep, rich colors and the stones are gorgeous. Lisa and Michele, where did you get yours? And thank you for the wonderful photos.

There's a real Pagoda on the top of a mountain very near here…will try to get a photo in the next few days. It's on the top of Mt. Penn…there's a story behind it but since it's been here since before I arrived, I have very little knowledge of it's reason for being. I only know the Japanese sent it to us many years ago…never checked out the roof points but am going to now! <img src='style_emoticons//ph34r.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’ph34r.gif’ />
Will try to get the entire thing in the photo…it's huge…at least 10 stories high…very mysterious, too. I've always thought it was haunted, but that's another story… <img src='style_emoticons//laugh.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’laugh.gif’ />

Thanks, Michele, I'll give Micky a call, and do post a photo of that pagoda, sounds interesting.
Since I have the Chinese Junk, might as well get the Pagoda. I like to collect the solids that are representative of different countries, and the Pagoda is a nice addition.

I was wondering if the Pagoda solid was representative of any certain Pagoda styles so I searched the web and came up with this Pagoda that is very similar.

Hi Lisa,
My Pagoda arrived today. When I opened it up I was very dissapointed by the shape of it. I had checked several websites that sell Jay Strongwater items. I found a clock pagoda and trinket box pagoda that Jay had designed. They are both rectangular shape. So that is what I had invisioned the EL Pagoda to be shaped like. But once I got over the intial shock of its shape it started growing on me. I think the crystals on the door should have all been the darker color except for the center crystal that is a bit larger than the rest.
Your pictures are fantastic! They really show all the detail of the solid. Thanks for doing some research on pagodas. I do appreciate you posting a picture of a Pagoda that is shaped like the solid. Too bad the edge of roof on the EL Pagoda didn't turn more like in the picture.
