Galveston and Houston have been spared from Hurricane Rita's wrath! She made landfall east of that area as a Category 3 storm. The damage to Beaumont and the surrounding region is bad, but doesn't appear catastrophic. Even New Orleans isn't getting as much rain as they feared. All in all, it looks a lot better than we feared. Here in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, we might not even get any rain (which we desperately need.)
