I've been cheated by 2 ebay sellers before. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> One for a $20 something ruby ring and the other for a $100 pair of shoes.

Luckily, I was able to recover my money through paypal both times.

I lurk on various message boards concerning ebay. What I learned is that you have to know and follow paypal policies. You may still have problems, but you will have a better chance to recover your money. In the future, its best to……..

Always file a claim with paypal 1st. For some reason they absolutely HATE it when users go directly to the credit card company. I don't know why, but believe me on this.

If paypal gives you a stupid canned response fairly quickly, try again. Keep trying until the deadline (I think you have up to 45 days after payment).

Once you submit your claim, it can take up to 30 days before they do anything. <img src='style_emoticons//mad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’mad.gif’ /> They took about a week in my situation. Please wait if it takes the full 30 days for you. They make you wait because they want to give the seller an opportunity to respond. Plus, they might be too busy and need the time.

Ok, paypal should side with you if you follow the deadlines…and the seller couldn't provide proof of shipment. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ /> At this point, the seller could change their mind and immediately ship the item(s) without a chargeback going through. They didn't in my case. So, I was able to recover my money. <img src='style_emoticons//smile.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’smile.gif’ />

However, despite winning a claim through paypal, things have gone wrong for many others. <img src='style_emoticons//sad.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’sad.gif’ /> One of the major problems is the inability to collect funds. <!–emo&<_<img src='style_emoticons//dry.gif’ border=’0′ style=’vertical-align:middle’ alt=’dry.gif’ /> I don't know why they can get money back from some sellers while not others??? Its just painful.

You can always go through your credit card company after you finished with paypal's requirements…as a last resort. I'm not sure if paypal with “punnish” you at this stage, but they will definitely do so if you went to the cc company 1st.

PS: You should leave sellers negative feedback if they don't ship your items or at least make an effort to help/compensate you. This will help other potential bidders greatly…so they know to stay away from crooks. Don't worry about retaliatory negatives. I have one and it looks silly; hasn't hurt me one bit. I rarely leave sellers bad feedback, but I will when I get cheated.
